Who would expect to find outstanding Greek food just a short walk from our beach paradise at the Lanta Island Resort on the main beach at Ko Lanta? After our visit to Greece this summer, I was prepared for less than stellar food in this corner of sourthern Thailand, but I was pleasantly surprised. The chef is warm, talented, and a genuine Greek. The menu has many classic Greek dishes, and what we tasted was terrific. They had a special plate available of slow-cooked lamb (roasted over 4 hours) that was the best lamb I can ever recall eating. Succulent, flavored with marjoram and other good spices, and the potatoes that were cooked with it had soaked up wonderful rich flavor. So perfect!
We also ordered the mezze vegetarian dish which included truly delicious egg plant balls and a variety of other delights.
We shared those two large dishes with four people. The cost was about 900 baht - less than US$30. More expensive than local Thai food, but a great deal nevertheless and so delightful. Definitely wish to go back. Warm, friendly chef, good service, great food. Such a surprise, right on the main road just a few yards south of our resort.
