Confirming our initial room reservations online with Melina was a breeze. Our queries were timely answered and we were very much assured prior to our trip.
Once our ferry arrived at Paya Beach, a Melina staff was already standing by with a smaller motorboat to transfer us to the Resort. It was a quick 5 minute boat ride and we were received very warmly by Lyza Jalani, the resort manager and her team.
We stayed for 2 nights in the Egret Room and it was perfect for us. Far enough from the main reception area but practically on the beach itself - so that our 3 young kids could run out and play whilst the parents chill out on the balcony. Bunk beds for the girls, a comfortable double for the parents and another single for our boy. There was no kettle in the room (although you can loan one from the reception) but drinking water, hot water and beverages are readily available at the resort restaurant so it was not an issue. No TV and wifi in the room means that we could truly disconnect - A bliss.
We enjoyed the resort mainly because there was so much to see - From exploring tide pools during low tides, climbing over the rock formations that line the beach, kayaking to nearby villages or just lazing in the warm waters. Planning excursion trips around Tioman was also easy and Lyza was always on hand with advice on trips that were suitable for our young kids.
Food was definitely excellent! The variety, portions and quality for our dinners were outstanding. Lyza had also graciously arranged for a birthday cake (made by the resort chef) to be presented to my wife. We were very grateful.
Checking out on the last day was also fuss free. Two nights at Melina Beach Resort is definitely not enough. Kudos to Lyza and team! We will definitely be back - next time hopefully for longer.
