Owner description: B&J Diving Centre is a PADI 5 Star IDC Centre that was established in 1987 and is run by a Malay/German/Swiss management team. It has dive centres in two locations on Tioman Island in Malaysia (Salang Bay and Air Batang Bay aka ABC).B&J has launched it's own upper market hotel (Tioman Dive Resort) in January 2012 to serve our clients even better. We take pride in providing the highest quality dive education for our customers as well as enjoyable leisure diving trips for already certified divers. B&J has a 100% safety record since it's existence and we constantly invest in maintaining/upgrading our equipment. Dive equipment is well maintained and regularly replaced, the air is tested for purity, the dive boats are large and comfortable and the dive groups are kept small. It might not be known to many but Tioman Island is home to some of the healthiest coral reefs and a myriad of marine life. B&J has been there from the beginning and has helped maintain these reefs by organizing regular environmental events such as cleanup days, COT (Crown Of Thorns) collections and more. B&J has been awarded several times by PADI for it's "Outstanding Contribution to Divers Education" and also as a “Project AWARE Environmental Achievement Award Winner”. B&J is also a “Go-Eco Operator” and a “Longitude 181 Ambassador”, promoting environmentally safe diving with a strict no glove and no touch policy. As a PADI 5 Star IDC (Instructor Development Center), B&J is amongst the top dive centers in Asia and the very experienced instructors teach all courses from beginner to instructor level. B&J is further a DSAT and IANTD Technical Diving Facility and provides DAN O2 Provider courses. If you like to see some of the most beautiful coral gardens in the South China Sea, a vast variety of tropical reef fish, turtles, sharks, cuttlefish and some of the best spots for nudibranchs in the world, then you shouldn’t miss a visit to Tioman Island. Two Tank dive trips for certified divers are organized daily and you have the choice of additional afternoon boat dives or night dives. If you prefer to take it more relaxed, then you should head for some great muck diving on the house reefs. Nitrox is readily available.Technical divers are drawn to Tioman to either enrol in more training and to visit some of the most spectacular wrecks in the world, HMS Repulse and HMS Prince of Wales. Next to diving we assist you with transfer and accommodation bookings or invite you to join one of our regular cleanup efforts to protect the ocean.

In the 5 days of our stay B&J dive centre has given us great insight into the underwater secrets of Tioman and the surrounding islands. The knowledge of the underwater area of our dive master (who was Finish) was excellent. He took us to areas with a seemingly infinite number of swim throughs which from one side looked more like inpenetratable caves but once entered they turned out like natural mazes.
B&J is well organised, has good and well maintained equipment. Their boats are quite small though so when it gets busy with many divers it can be quite cramped.
One of the added values offered by them and highly recommended are their support in organising all non diving related things, I.e. Transfer from Mersing, Hotel in Salang or ABC, etc.

The people were very nice and accommodating! Our teacher, Adam, was great! He knew what he was talking about and made it quite easy and enjoyable to learn. He took us through all the theories and applied it with 4 open water dives. Tioman Island has fabulous dive spots. The only thing I can complain about here is their bathroom. It is quite primitive, not clean and it is a common bathroom. You need to squat because the toilet seats are quite dirty. It is also located outside, in a small corner with one lightbulb and no proper door. Other than that, the place was excellent and so were the people!

Just come back from 2 and half weeks on Tioman. This was not our first visit, and last time we also dived with B&J. They have two shops, one in Salang and the main one in ABC. We stayed at Salang. Me and wife are both experienced divers, and what I really appreciated is that the dive masters never "mothered" us , nor tried to impress with big attitudes, like what you find at so many other dive resorts. We were normally diving in smaller groups, and since we do photography we normally fell behind the group quite early in the dive. The last thing we wanted was some dive leader who was trying to set swimming records underwater. This was no problem for anyone and their understanding was appreciated. In general the B&J crowd was a nice enough bunch of people and I'll dive with them again. About diving Tioman in general: We only managed to get two about half the number of sites, but this was because we were lazy and wanted some chill days. I really like Chebeh and also Malang. We had some great snorkelling just off Salang Beach, and few time got cylinders and did the same area on Scuba. It is very shallow, average about 5 meters. We found in general that the best sights was in this shallow depth range. Underneath the jetty is also great, although mostly sand and some junk there are huge schools of fish, and if you just sit and watch you can see the predator fish hunting. In most cases we had dive times exceeding 1 hour. The visibility was varied and at best I guess 15 meters, but some places was as little as 5m. Even so the diving is great, with lots of fish and plenty corals, hard and soft. We saw some larger animals such as turtles and moray eel, as well as humphead parrotfish. Unfortunately we never saw any sharks, live ones that is, since it sadly seems common practise by local restaurants on Tioman so serve white-tip reef shark on the BBQ. We found this quite shocking, as these are excatly the kind of animals we'd like to see live underwater. It seems that the local business has not realised that the can make more money by keeping them alive that a few bucks when they are served as dinner. Just as shocking was to see how tourists would buy these dishes. Most dive agencies have awareness programs, and it is meant to educate divers about marine life. I believe if the tourist dont buy these dishes the restaurants will stop serving them and then hopefully the fisherman will stop catching them and then we can go back and dive with them.

Was there for my Open water course. The instructors were all very friendly and patient. Had the opportunity of learning under Rory Fraser, nice chap with great deal of experience. Grahame was like an elder bro to all of us both students and instructors. Looking forward to going back for my Advance course...5 Star Dive Centre!!

I did the PADI Open Water diving course with B&J in Apr 2011. My interaction with them starting from the time I was in India and planning a dive course was good. Emails responses were quick and informative. They helped book the accomodation on Tioman too.

The instructor that I had is called AJ. He had solid knowledge, was patient when needed and also strict when necessary. He helped me get over initial nervousness. I felt comfortable by the second day of the course and after that progress was good.

The equipment used inspired confidence. Overall, teaching was good. Classroom was present in their facility. Their main office building is beside the beach with a nice sit-out area that is superb for evenings.

Grahame Massicks who also is an instructor is a great underwater photographer. I was quite fascinated to see his beautiful photos of marine life.

The 4 days at Tioman were well spent with B&J.
