“A wonderful weekend retreat from Kuala Lumpur”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 December 2012

This resort is the best on Tioman. It's isolated, well organized, the staff are outstanding- they provide a very personalized service, as there are so few guests- the resort is pretty small and the ratio of guests to staff probably isn't more than 9:1. The food was fantastic- an italian and a thai/ malay restaurant. My only complaint was an aggressive male monkey trying to scare me off my balcony. While my room was extremely pleasant, with a well-stocked refrigerator and so on, what I really needed at that moment was a crossbow.

Frankly, though, this resort is slightly hamstrung by location. I mean, it's in Tioman. The place is good if you need a weekend retreat from Singapore or KL, but if you have the days off to go further, then please do so. Sabah is much nicer. To expand upon being hamstrung by location, Tioman is in Malaysia, and that's disadvantageous as well. Sorry, but everything in Malaysia feels like a cut-rate Indonesia. Malaysia has great marketing, and Indonesia is not good at marketing itself at all. But in Indonesia, the water's bluer, the people are friendlier, the varieties of regional cuisine are better, the diving is amazing (diving on Tioman was like diving in a parking lot relative to places in Indonesia), etc etc etc.

I was travelling with a friend and we were there for three nights (a long weekend).
A beautiful island and a beautiful resort... The staff are great. Really helpful and friendly. The beach is amazing... Quite isolated and you need to organise a boat ride/ sea taxi to get to other parts of the island. The food is fabulous - especially the BBQ on the beach. Breakfasts are great too.

I would highly highly recommend you go!!!

Room Tip: Get a room with the sea view :)

Spent a short holiday there. Though is a low season, but the trip is wonderful. First, the staff are friendly. Secondly, the room and the resort are well design to make you relax. 20 minutes boat ride from airport, it comes with the special lemongrass drink. Like the aroma oil burning and the jaz music in room. Wonderful seaview from seacliff room. Best place to calm the mind. The umbrella is available almost at every corner. Food is tasty, but a bit salty to me.

This was one of the best holiday experiences we have had. The resort was beautifully placed on the fringe of the jungle and the sea. There are no roads to it: travel is by boat arranged by the resort. The cabins are beautifully located in the jungle and are wonderfully appointed with stunning views. Snorkelling off the jetty is memorable but the best snorkelling is at a small island along the coast on a trip by the resort boat. Myriads of fish in crystal clear water with stunning coral and an unthreatening shark! The staff are so friendly and the food in the asian restaurant excellent. There are two restaurants though we only ate asian not italian. We were there for three days and that seemed about right. We walked through the jungle to Genting and without the services of the boat that's about all that can be done. Great for relaxing and very quiet. Perhaps a little too expensive for the facilities. Everything is extra. However we had a wonderful time and thoroughly recommend the resort

We spent our anniversary here. We knew it would be isolated, but that is exactly what we wanted. We had the Seaview Sarang - a great spot for privacy, with a beautiful bedroom, nice living area, shaded outdoor couch, separate sun deck with loungers, a neat plunge pool, all with sea views through the jungle canopy, but very private. The bathroom is nice and leads to a little jetted and heated spa in an enclosed courtyard.
Getting to the Sarang is a bit of a hike up the stairs, but even with a dodgy knee I managed, so it should not be a problem for any reasonably healthy person.
The unit does, however, need a bit of TLC and maintenance. There is no problem with the hygiene or cleanliness, just some maintenance issues which, if not attended to, will probably become problems in a couple of years.
Meals were great, especially the Asian meals. We had a special dinner in one of the beach gazebos on the night of our anniversary.
The staff are super friendly and left little personalised notes on our bed every evening.
There is not a lot to do, but we went to relax. Snorkelling is ok. I also paddled a kayak daily, going around the corner to the next door resort, just for a look.
Recommended for a short quiet break - we had 5 nights here, just enough.

Room Tip: Expect rustic luxury, not highly polished luxury.
