The BuBu resort is unique for multiple reasons. It impresses with its location directly on a beautiful white sandy beach. It is only a few meters from the hotel room. What distinguishes this resort from comparable hotels: hospitality, service, cordiality and a restaurant that uniquely combines French, Italian and Asian cuisine. The quality of the food and its preparation can be compared in my opinion with gourmet restaurants. The renovated rooms are simple but clean and cozy. People who absolutely need a TV on this island are out of place here anyway. A short personal supplement: In two recessions, the two tour guides were criticized. This is unfair in my view. The guys are doing a highly professional job. It is not their fault if they have people on board who mistake a snorkeling tour for a picnic and misbehave aboard. Only negative point (for the BuBU is not responsible). New hotel projects give reason to fear that this little paradise will fall victim to mass tourism.

Room tip: deluxe rooms with seaview (smaller but amazing view)

My friend and I went on a dive trip to Perhentian and stayed at Bubu resort. It was very conveniently located on Long Beach, 2-3 min away from our diveshop. Since we were out for most of the day we didn't mind not having a TV in the room although it was on the pricey side per night. Another issue was the unreliable wifi connection to the rooms. Apparently they were still fixing up the high speed cables to the room. The reception and beach area had great wifi connection though! They made up for these shortcomings by having a decent breakfast spread and cocktail hour everyday!

Im gona make it very short. Costs a lot for a crappy motel.
- Front desk lady from Kota Bharu is not that friendly.
- I paid RM 1500++ per night for a room that I can merely move around, no desk to place my laptop, can you imagine that?
- The worst part of all, for +1500 per night, I had a coffee making space placed right next to the toilet, the logic here could be that i can Poo and make coffee at the same time. Mind you, there is nothing blocking between the toilet and the wardrobe/coffee space, so your cups are exposed to the bacteria roaming in the toilet, and u can make coffee there and drink it. Awesome Health and Safety plannings!
- Bathroom smells bad
- The bedsheets and duvet covers are not clean! Can see spots of blood and mud.
- Only limited to 4 small bottles of water per day. If you pay RM 1500 for a luxury hotel, you would expect them to give you some extra bottles, but nope, u need to pay RM 5.50 for a small bottle of water, and even that, the Kota Bharu lady will just point us to the restaurant and ask us to get it ourself, poor poor customer service and no courtesy at all.
- Poor room for the price tag.
- Next, breakfast, pure crap, limited choices for what they charge per room rate. I used to pay RM 1500+ for a mandarin oriental or Pan Pacific and the breakfast would be royal! So keep your expectation low!
- At least they serve coffee...
- Snorkeling trip booked at the resort, horrible experience, the operator will just announce the spot and he will go his way, without bothering if we are safe, no proper guidance and basically he is not bothered.
- During the snorkeling trip, he wanted to serve us with watermelon, he cut it open, smelled it, and his face went "eeewwww", and he told us its not that good, but u r welcome to try. HEALTH and SAFETY!! WOW right..

Overall a super crappy resort for the price paid, please stay elsewhere... Dont waste your money.

Room tip: Dont Book this hotel!

This is my second stay at Bubu Resort Hotel and it didn't disappoint. Everything from the high level of service to the cleanliness, restaurant and free cocktails in the evening are superb.

Yes you pay a bit more for the food and drinks here, but a short walk on the beach offers plenty of alternatives.

The snorkelling trips are well organised and insured - not like some of the others offered on the beach!

One criticism would be the shuttle transfer from the island to the airport. Bubu arranges this at a higher cost than the booking it oneself, but in fact once you reach the jetty, you join a shared shuttle bus anyway - so there is no reason for the additional fare.

I would stay again, it is by far the best on the island for hotels (I didn't try the bubu villas)

Thanks to Jona and the whole Bubu team for a perfect dinner. They spent a lot of time organizing this wedding anniversary.
We really felt that the organization was done with conviction, love of their job and emotion. We had a real French dinner that is worth a lot of great Parisian restaurants (thanks to Paul the cook !)
Thanks Jona, it means a lot to us.
