Well I was returning to Redang after a decade and had some amazing memories previously.....

Arrival: When I reached the island it was just overcrowded with boats ferrying loads of visitors. The beach was full of sand trucks loading tourist and their luggage. Not a sight one would expect from a beach holiday.

Check in: So my wife and I clearly mentioned 2 adults and a child when we made our reservation like 2 months ago. Some how the front desk thought it was OK to give us 2 SINGLE beds for 3 occupants. Let me just make you aware that the standard room is quite a walk from the lobby. Anyway i went back to check on the goof up and guess what, the front desk denied taking any responsibility and blamed the whole mishap to reservations.
Here comes Ms Bee! She is suppose to be in charge for reservation but clearly NOT very efficient at it. So after listening to our plight she actually replies to us with a big smile " I'm sorry, queen or king beds are subject to availability, there is nothing i can do to help you!!
I obviously gave her a piece of my mind, but it didn't effect her AT ALL!
So basically you make a reservation 2 months in advance and its upto the hotels discretion if you deserve to sleep on a queen or 2 Single beds!
First impressions- very disappointed!!

Rooms;
As mentioned earlier, the standard room is quite a walk from the lobby. What was more shocking was the surrounding and the view. Construction still in progress and workers walking outside our balcony was not a view i was expecting. And yes standard rooms have NO VIEW and no intercoms.
Inside the room was a different story, very spacious room, bathroom and balcony.
Toilets have high ceilings and separate glass cubicles for the toilet and shower.
Pillows were firm and mattress was good .

Restaurant:
We were pleasantly surprised that the food was reasonably priced and tasted good. All the foreign workers were polite and helpful.

Check out:
Please take note that there's a 2% surcharge on ALL debit and credit cards.
How does a resort of this standard get away with that.

Overall:
The resort is new and stylish, rooms are nice and food is good. That's important to most visitors. The clear waters and the abundance of coral and fish is just amazing!!

Tip to the hotel:
1. You have one of the best resorts in Redang, don't ruin your guests holiday by employing arrogant and un accommodating front desk personnel.
2. Do you actually expect your guests to carry cash nothing less then RM 2000 to a beach holiday. Its 2017, please wake up.
3. Use electric trucks to transport people and luggage.

Room Tip: Standard room although good but has no view and is quite a walk from the beach and lobby

We stayed for 7 nights at Coral Redang and it became obvious that this was the right choice for us as its the Hotel (we visited all the other hotels on the two beaches surrounding) which we deem is the most suitable one for Westerners. The staff, specially the Bar and Restaurant staff, are super and very friendly and efficient.
The Buffet breakfast variety is limited and could be improved.
They are building new blocks/rooms in the back of the ground which might be a little too much, but we had a very nice room on the ground floor and in the first line from the beach and this was great. Pool very nice too. Overall a great experience and thanks so much to the staff for making us so feel well during our stay.

I took the full board package which comes with 3 (buffet) meals/day and 2 snorkeling trips each day. If you do not want the hassle of hiring boat trips or buying food from elsewhere, it is recommended for you to take the package. A reason I chose this hotel was its' meals received good reviews and true enough, we enjoyed all our meals. Seafood was fresh but it might not be to the liking of patrons who prefer Western meals as the meals were mostly cooked Asian style (i.e. rice!!). Snorkeling trips were okay, but if you would like to venture to less crowded snorkeling spots, then you should hire a private trip.

Room was clean, comfortable, toilet amenities very basic - no toothbrush/toothpaste. Only a soap dispenser in the shower. Beach and swimming pool also nice. There were a lot of bean bags provided to lounge in the lobby area facing the beach.

Overall we enjoyed our stay, although the hotel was not too far from the jetty, the hotel provides a pickup for us to and fro the hotel on day of arrival/departure.

We stayed for 3 nights at Coral Redang on a full board package, with the price we paid it is definitely worth every penny. Though some pluses and some minuses-

a) The Room: The hotel was renovated 3 years ago, the chalet rooms are considered quite well equipped with modern amenities :- huge bathroom / tiled floor /fully air-conditioned, all is well, but it is starting to show some flaws: Discoloured wall / safe which is out of order / poor drainage in the shower. The hotel ground in front of my block (standard room in the 3-storey block at the far end of the hotel) is still undergoing face lift which is pretty barren and unsightly, moreover a smelly drain in also in the compound.

b) Location: I can't agree more with other review, the location is just perfect-a quiet corner of Pasir Panjang, yet you can still access by foot to the more happening section of Pasir Panjang (eg to do snorkelling there to see the 13 baby sharks, or to chill out at the various pubs at night) ; you can even walk to Berjaya hotel via the jungle path right behind Coral Redang resort (about 40 mins walk).

c) Food: One of the most enjoyable aspect of my stay which sort of compensated other less satisfactory aspect. I was told the kitchen was helmed by a Malay and a Chinese chef both are good in delivering flavourful Asian dishes (Unable to comment on Western food as we have only tried the daily buffet and not the ala cart menu). Although the buffet comes with almost standard items every day (salads, beef, fish, prawn, chicken) they are mostly prepared in different ways hence we look forward to our meals and yet to get bored. There are some eateries around Pasir Panjang hotels (some are cheap and affordable) but we never get to try since all meals are provided.

d) Service :- Agree with other review that staff are "under motivated". Although one or two staff are very friendly, the rest are not. Most of the service staff (from housekeeper, F&B staff to front desk) keep to themselves and it's very strange that we are always the one who greeted them first. On our day to check out, someone even came knocking at our door 10 mins before time is up, with a cigarettes in his hand, to urge us leave the room.

e) Yes no presence of management throughout the stay and you will notice that management is not replying to any TripAdvisor reviews either to thank or to disaster manage. Could be same reason why it's employees is little disengaged.

f) It's my birthday and we have notified the hotel earlier- twice- and quite disappointing that nothing was offered

g) Logistic - Ferry Ticket / Pick Up from Pulau Redang Jetty etc - it was seamless (need to mention that we arrived by bus at the Terengganu Bus Terminal and decided to walk 10 mins to the Shahbandar Jetty instead, as the hotel charges land transfer of RM16 each way)

h) Dive Center
We took the full board (snorkel) package and are entitled to 2 fully-paid snorkelling trips per day (Snorkelling time is 10am and 3pm daily) It's a requirement for every tourist to wear a safety vest to snorkel, the vest and the snorkel/mask set can be rented at RM45 for 3 days 2 nights. During my last trip I find Marine Park overcrowded as you see people's feet more than you see fishes. This time round Coral Redang Dive Center brought us there at 3pm so we can avoid other tourists. The dive center also brought us to a few other beautiful sites. It was an unforgettable experience. (Water is perfectly clear and vast variety of sea creatures/life corals)

Pulau Redang is really amazing, we have already decided to come back again next year but maybe will be staying at a different resort next time.

Upon arriving at the island's jetty, we were a little clueless because no one from the hotel welcome us to show us to the reception area. Few minutes then staff from the hotel came to help us with the luggage and showed us to the hotel lobby. Our rooms was at the 3 storey building around 500m or so from the lobby area.

Our building was new and the landscape in the area is still under construction. So it was a little eye sore walking to and from our room. Once we entered the room, i had a little headache because the plaster or paint smell is still there. Nonetheless, the room is nice and clean. The room and toilet is quite big for my family of 4.

We took the full board package and meals was included. Overall some meals are good and some meals are average.

Overall, the beach and sea are spectacular. It was so relaxing just lying on the beanbag provided at the lobby looking at sea.
