Given that the previous reviewer appears to have had a bad experience I figured I'd share mine.

The hostel has apparently recently been rebuilt or renovated as I didn't experience anything negative. For me, it was a nice place in a tranquil environment where I got to unwind for a bit. A chance to experience authentic Nicaraguan life.

If you're looking for a place to go clubbing than this is probably not for you. Otherwise, great hostel.

We reserved this place based on TripAdvisor reviews, which were surprisingly almost all Dutch. I am only putting a review here because I think the prior reviews are fake (maybe friends/family of the Dutch owner?) and I want to save others the effort.

Altagracia is already in the middle of nowhere, but this place even more: about 3km outside the 'town'. This means you have really nothing around: No restaurants, minisuper, nothing. The place looked really shabby and rundown, weed (not the Dutch one though, unfortunately) growing everywhere. The rooms were in sheds, just 4 cement walls, a bed and a fan. Shared shower looked really unclean. I asked if they serve food or if I could book tours, but the guy said no. All the contrary of the prior reviews... The owners seemed to be back in Holland from or until January. Not sure who's the people taking care of it now, but its current state is shocking.

I thanked and turned around and looked for something in Altagracia: Lots of good and cheap options there. Central is your best bet.

Room tip: Avoid the please altogether

Dear mr Dutch Delight 013,

We are very sorry that we did not med your expactations of our hostel.
You are right that the hostel was not in so good condition's in 2015 and we where not at the place ourselfs.
Unfortunedly i was not able to bring such a mesage to tripadvisor so new costumors could still find us. Therefore it was dificult to bring you te service we like to.
We are curently verry busy with updating website and booking site's.
GOOD news , IN JANUARI 2016 WE REBUILT the hostel completly for our new costumers and from end of 2016 we will by perminendly stay on our hostel.
Hospetelity and service wil be back as we like to bring it to you.
