I stayed in this hostel for one night. When you are visiting cultural triangle, this can be considered as a great place to stop by and take rest. This is right opposite to the dambulla caves temple, so you can save time.
What you can plan is finish the dambulla caves by 10:30AM, hire a tuk-tuk, then go to sigiriya. it will take around 30 minutes to reach sigiriya. Then, you can finish the climb by 1-1:30PM. Go to the express way and take a bus and go to polanarewa and you will reach at 4 PM. It will take an hour or two and then head back to dambulla again.
Next day, you can start for Anuradhapura and then from there you can go back to colombo. There is an evening train.
The point what i am trying to say is that you don't need 3 days to cover cultural triangle and this hostel can act as a central point and a cost effective stay option.
The room is basic but clean and hygienic. There is a small home run restaurant next to the property. You can get srilankan rice and curry for dinner.
And , evening you can meet few other tourist from all round the world and exchange few travel tips.
All in all, it is a good budget stay.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- This cosy guesthouse is the oldest one in Dambulla. It is an authentic Sri Lankan home - and right opposite the Big Golden Buddha! The Oasis Tourist Welfare Center is under new German-Sri Lankan management and makes everybody feel at home. It consists of the actual guesthouse and 2 additional comfortable rooms in our neighbors' house on the same property. The guesthouse itself has got 4 bright and colorful but basic rooms, all furnished with a fan and a mosquito net and lovely decoration with attention to detail. 3 small budget rooms share one bathroom, 1 spacious room ("Pink Room") is en-suite. Our Oasis is located in a quiet backyard and offers spacious common areas inside as well as outside in the garden for all our guests to relax or gather together and have a chat or a drink. We have a few pets around: a couple of cats, a dog and 2 rabbits at the moment. They also come inside the house, so please inform us if you are allergic. It's also the only place in town that prepares a delicious breakfast of home-made organic yoghurt, fruits and cereals (breakfast is subject to availability). Room rates start as low as LKR 900 for the single room and LKR 1300 for a small double room. The en-suite "Pink Room" costs LKR 2000. All rooms come with fresh linen, sheets, towels and toiletries as well as free tea (self service), drinking water from the water filter and free 16Mbit WiFi. But considering this price, please don't expect a king's palace - the Oasis is a basic 40-year old (!) guesthouse which also means some cracks in the walls, some old paint, a couple of ants running around the place and an occasional frog jumping around in the bathroom. Our neighbors' rooms are a totally different world. Their house is rather new and you will find spacious comfortable rooms and en-suite tiled bathrooms with hot water shower. One room comes with a little balcony and the other one with a kitchenette. Both rooms come without ants and frogs ;-) So if you like to stay with us, just pop in here or call ahead (recommended) for a room. We are looking forward to giving you a great and enjoyable time here in Dambulla. ... more less
