We stayed 2 nights in Dambulla to use it as a travel base. It is quite convenient to reach Sigiriya - a drive of around 30 mins by tuk tuk. With the nice help of the hostel owners we could work out the routes and places we wanted to go. It is a very reasonable place to stay if you a budget backpacker like us. Friendly and helpful people. The place was quite average which had simple cosy rooms - sufficient for backpackers.

The facilities are very basic but clean. Very friendly and helpful owners. If you are on a tight budget then this is the place for you. Within easy reach of Dambulla and opposite the lovely temple caves, well worth a visit just before sunset, the view is fantastic.

We stayed with Christiane for 2 nights and found it the perfect base to visit Sigiria Rock.
The rooms are very simple, but they are clean and Christiane is very helpful with organising tuktuk drivers or giving advice. Also she makes an amazing breakfast of fresh fruit with selfmade muesli and yoghurt.

If you go to Dambulla, you have to go to the oasis!! Christiana and her husband are extremely nice and helpful, they gave us sooo many advice on anything you could see and do in dambulla and in sri lanka and they never got tired of our questions!!! Christiana is a backpacker herself and she knows exactly what to advice to other travellers!!We also kept in touch once we left dambulla!! It is a very cosy and nice place, rooms with different size, nice and clean! you can really feel like home there, and Christiana can prepare for you a very very delicious breakfast with fruits and an amazing homemade yogurth!!!and having breakfast or and evening tea with the sight of the huge lord buddah in front of you, has no price!
Thanks again for everything!!!

Thank you very much Silvia, it was my pleasure to have you here and help you with planning your trip as much as I can :) I hope you will come back here someday. We did some major repair works recently, got 2 new rooms for another 3 to 5 people and also solved most of the lime scale issues, which gave the sink and the bathrooms a bit of a dirty-ish look. Looks really great and clean now. So come back anytime, Lord Buddha and the organic yoghurt is waiting for you :)

A cheap and cheerful stay. The location is brilliant and easy to get to. Run by a pleasant German lady and her Sri Lankan husband who we found very pleasant and helpful. The breakfast is delicious and we were comfortable. It is very basic so don't expect 5* luxury!

Thank you very much for your review. And thank you also for pointing out that it's basic :) So I just use that chance to say a few words to that, not that people get the wrong idea before coming here and get disappointed. I mean this is a 40-year-old house (considering Sri Lanka's humidity and building style this IS very old), so please, dear travelers, *don't* expect a fully new, modern guesthouse with tiled bathroom, air-conditioning, TV and all that stuff. It is what it is: A very old, authentic Sri Lankan home, with old walls (where sometimes even a little concrete came off) and self-made wooden doors. Some people even called it a cottage :) It is extremely lovely, colorful and has a great one-of-a-kind charm. We improve little things in the rooms and the garden step by step in order to preserve it's charm and also solve issues that come with an old, not-tiled house like limescale and peeling off paint. We give our best to give it a nice, very welcoming and feeling-at-home touch. So when you come here, it's way more about the atmosphere than the facilities itself. It's about being part of our family/friends for a couple of days and having the experience of living in an authentic Sri Lankan home rather than one of the many beautiful new, modern, all-tiled but little bit anonymous guesthouses.
