The first impressions of the hotel and staff were very good, room was nice and we had requested upper floor which we got . We travel a lot and don't usually go all inclusive but decided to give it a go.
My husband is type 2 diabetic so asked for a Diet Coke and was told he'd have to pay for it as it has to be imported. So you are only really providing him with water as he doesn't drink alcohol. Our rep supposedly spoke to someone about this twice but was told you weren't prepared to let him have it free.
Also when we had coffee we were only offered sugar and had to ask every time for solo.
You really could do with getting some more umberlla's /parasols.
And finally we found the Germans and Russians very rude and don't seem to know the meaning of the word wait your turn. We understand there's nothing you can do for that problem. Look forward to hearing your respond.

Thank you for the review of your recent stay at Tangerine & praising the efforts of our staff members. We have taken a note of the concerned raised related to the All Inclusive Package & wish to clarify the following. As we serve for different types of meal plans our All Inclusive entitlement is offered as a value for money package. Therefore certain imported beverages & specialized coffees are not included. The All Inclusive entitlement is clearly communicated to all our business partners in order to inform the guests by the time of the reservation & guests have the flexibility of selecting the meal plan which is suitable for their requirements.Trust this would clarify your feedback related to All Inclusive entitlement. We are in the process of adding more parasols in our garden around the pool for the convenience of guests. While thanking you again for your valuable feedback we look forward to welcome you again in the near future.

We stayed here for one night before heading up to the airport. We were given an ‘upgrade’ on check in but overall the hotel had a strange feel to it.
It’s a little tired and old and caters massively to a large German and Russian clientele.
It seems to be stuck in the past by a couple of decades but staff were pleasant and food was okay.
I probably wouldn’t recommend staying here more than one night - a bit strange!

Thank you for the review of your recent stay at Tangerine & praising the efforts of our staff members and food on offer. We are are 179 rooms hotel and currently cater for 12 different nationalities. Hotel is in existence for the past 3 decades and gone through continuous refurbishment programs over the last 7 years & we have planned out certain areas to be upgraded in the up coming summer season. It is difficult for us to understand the feedback of having a "strange feeling" hence we are unable to comment on that. While thanking you for selecting Tangerine as a part of your holiday we look forward to welcome you again in the near future.

We stayed 7 nights in february.
Room: We stayed in a deluxe double room: It was clean, spacious and had everything we needed. Every day we got fresh towels, two bottles of water and coffee. The AC worked great during the day, but somehow the temperature was turned up during the night without us changing it. Luckily there was a ceiling fan to keep us cool at night.

Service: We got transport from the airport to the hotel, withs no problems. it cost 11000 lkr. The staff was generally very nice, and helpfull - but when we asked for help booking train tickets they insisted that the only possible transportation was by driver, and would not help so we went to the trains station and bought tickets.

Food: Breakfast buffet was generous with great variety of foods.
The dinner buffet was also generous but has different themes every night and gets a little boring. We would not recommend going all inclusive as the ala carte food in the hotel cafe was better and cheaper. The lunch ala carte is not amazing but it works, with some dished better than others. Their local food was very good but most western dishes were disappointing.

Location: The hotel is very pleasent with a huge lobby and connecting areas are beautiful. The pool is great; big and clean which is good since the ocean is too dangerous to swim in. The beach is not sunbathing or swimming friendly. The town is really boring. There is nothing to do, very little shopping and few restaurants. A short tuk-tuk ride will get you to Kalutara center where you find a larger variety.

WIFI: WORKS GREAT. We read reviews that said that it didn't work very well, but we had no problems. We could access it everywhere in the hotel and by the pool.

Overall very happy with the hotel and service. But the location is lacking. Great option if you plan on never leaving the hotel.

Having done weeks of research to find the right hotel for us I decided that TBH was perfect looking at the majority of reviews .
Well unfortunately got off to a bad start on arrival at hotel we were told our room wasn’t ready and we would have to wait 2 hours ! Well believe me after you have been travelling for over 20 hours all you want to do is get in your room and sleep ...this is not the hotels fault I blame travelbag for not warning us coming in on the early flight meant the rooms weren’t vacated till 12.. to be fair to management we were offered an alternative standard room which was not up to the standard of the double deluxe room we had requested ...so if they say all rooms are the same this is not the case ask for a double bed deluxe

The food was excellent spicy but a bit samey and felt like queueing for school dinners particularly difficult queueing with a lot of Russians and Germans who appeared quite rude to staff

As others have said before the biggest moan was having to sign for every drink even water ...never had this is any all inclusive before this definitely put us off

Something you need to be aware of is if you eat lunch on arrival you are not entitled to lunch on departure day even if you don’t depart till 5pm
Staff work really hard particularly room staff and pool boys
Worth giving pool and room staff a tip at the beginning of your holiday they are extra attentive .
We did some good trips with Asya tours the udawalwe safari was the highlight of our trip Prasad and Danny were good fun
Prompt courteous service excellent guides

All in all if you are coming to Sri Lanka for a special holiday this hotel may not be your best option
Not the same standard as 3 star plus in Caribbean
But Sri Lanka is a fascinating country do go

Thank you for the review of your recent stay at Tangerine & praising most of our services & facilities. We have taken a note of some of the constructive comments made & wish to clarify the following.

Check in - As in any other international star class hotel Tangerine also has a check in time & which is at 1 pm on date of arrival. It is unfortunate that the hotel is held responsible for a bad start when clients arrive early and expect to have to the room as soon as they arrive.

All Inclusive Package - We are not a 100% All inclusive resort and we cater for all other meal plans. Hence certain facilities are not entitled for the All inclusive package. However we provide a very attractive , value for money All Inclusive package and the entitlements are clearly communicated to all our business partners in order to inform the guests in advance. For the benefit of all readers please request the All Inclusive entitlement by the time of your reservation in order to avoid any misunderstandings and disputes.

Once again we thank you for your lengthy feedback & look forward to welcome you again in the near future.
