I was a on a business trip to Delhi when i visited this restaurant on recommendation of a colleague. Authentic south Indian food served. We opted for a Thali so that each multiple varieties can be tried ;) Rasam is very good. they also have a sweet counter for purchasing sweets.

We have these back in the UK which always seem to have a huge queue to get in so seeing one in Delhi, we jumped at the chance to get in and try the food. We were seated upstairs, no waiting. We advised the server that we wanted to order some starters and then we would order some mains. He advised that we should order all in one go and he would make sure that starters came first. Well, that went down the pan when within 10 minutes, 4 plates of food turned up. We spoke to the server who then said we asked for it in one go!
We tried the starters, no salt or taste in any of it. Moved onto the dosa which were even worse. No taste at all. We left more than 60% of the food. When the server came to clear up, he starts to complain that we left a lot of food. It’s where I piped up and told him if he listed in the 1st place we would not have left as much but being ignorant and placing the food order in one go, in turn meant all food arrived in one go. With all the other food places around this area, please move on and look elsewhere.

Saravana Bhavan's branch in New Delhi's Janpath is my favourite. Since its expansion, it is not that crowded. Good to see north Indians and foreign tourists also relishing the food here. I ate in its branches in Chennai and San Fransisco too. Value for money and food is served hot.

Of late, I've started avoiding this restaurant; what was once my favourite dish, Uppama, is no longer attractive - these days it's more of a (discoloured) onion-filled mush. It doesn't even look nice, when served. That said, it remains an extremely popular restaurant.
