In a quiet, rural valley down a country road only an hour by car from Jaipur lies the most beautiful and rather unexpected oasis, which is Anopura. From the moment you are greeted at the front door by the perfectly groomed male staff with a small glass of fresh pineapple juice, you realise you are in a very special place where the service is discrete and perfect.

The beautifully designed garden is perfectly tended and groomed with a square pool at its centre, which trickles refreshingly as you bask in the sunshine and peace on a comfy chair or bed, away from the bustle and noise of town life.

The food is excellent (if a little European on our one day there) and Ishwar, the manager, is always ready to chat and answer your questions. The room was one of only two (!) at Anopura and we were the only guests, which suited us perfectly. Ishwar took us on a most enjoyable and instructive walk past the temple and through the local village, led by gorgeous Latika, the hotel's resident golden lab who kept us both amused throughout our stay with her love for life and great affection for the guests.

Every detail in Anopura's design has been carefully thought out to ensure your stay feels luxurious and yet very much still a wildlife lodge. As we sat by the pool in the evening, enjoying the heat of the firepit before dinner, we were treated to a jackal repeatedly barking the other side of the hedge at the bottom of the garden, echoed by the local dogs sounding the alarm.

Our only regret was that we had not booked for more than one night - a real gem of India.

Thank you for loving and connecting with Anopura.
The resort began as a rustic two bedroom home, arranged around shaded courtyard and anchored by terraced swimming pool. Today Anopura has grown to include three further suites spread between two exquisitely designed country villas nurtured by the tender spirit of rural India’s exuberant hospitality.
Anopura has, since its opening, been a unique project: one built upon years of commitment towards the fleeting art of life.
We look forward to hosting you again.

I was there at Anopura on 23rd March. I got down at Jaipur and took a road drive to Anopura and I was really wondering on where am I going.. After 2 hrs of drive unknown roads, without any signboards and no destination found in GPS, I was really hard..

But just as the name states, it's a part of secret resorts, it's locations is indeed a real secret.

After all that long and wague journey, there awaited a lovely home away from home "Anopura"

Excellent place for family and friends outing.. Excellent service, great ambience and good food..

Spotting few wildlife around the place is an added advantage. We spot few foxes..

I cannot finish my review without mentioning about "Lathika" they have.. A real smart, friendly and loving dog.. Lathika just took us for a morning trekk, without any staff assistance. Se even opens the door for us.. Humm..

A must stay place if you are traveling to Jaipur..

Me and my husband spent two nights at Anopura in March 2015. Situated in a peaceful location, Anopura is the best place to take a break from the crowded and loud indian cities. The house is beautiful and all the place reminds a traditional indian home. The pool chairs are exactly like the beds the villagers sleep in and the house itself has a beautiful hall in the middle that connects all rooms. With just two bedrooms, Anopura offers a very personalized service and its staff quickly make you fell comfortable. Ishwar, the manager, is a sweet Indian guy that will treat you like an old friend. Don't miss a walk to the village of Anopura with him. It is just a ten minute walk but he can also drive you to the place with the house jeep — he will let you drive if you wish to practice your driving skills in India. We spent the Holi festival at the village with Ishwar and our guide. It was a very good experience. We had so much fun and in the end Ishwar really became a good friend. The food at Anopura (the hotel) is excellent and tasty. Breakfast at the pool side is charming and the property has a sweet yellow lab called Latika. She played Holi with us at the village and she made us company by the pool all the time. She adds an extra charm to Anopura. it was sad to say goodbye. I highly recommend the place.

Is this Rajasthan’s best place to stay?

Is it India’s best?

Those who have been to Anopura some forty-five kilometres from Jaipur absolutely love it. Without exception, guests only complain about the problem of finding the words to explain how much they enjoyed their stay. Tripadvisor has a couple of dozen postings and all of them are “excellent”. One couple came three years ago and have returned every year since.

Though within easy reach of Jaipur, Anopura is deep in India profonde. A small road off a minor road takes you round a rocky hill to the premises in rural farmland. The accommodation is in a group of beautifully designed buildings and consists of just two suites. Just. Two.

That is the first indication that Anopura is exceptional. Who can possibly hope to run a hotel with accommodation for just two couples?

The suites are well designed; not the in-your-face designer models of many luxury hotels but thoughtfully and considerately planned spaces where guests will feel relaxed and at home. Many luxury hotels score on design but miss out on comfort. Not here.

One of the first things the manager, host and all-round genius, Ishwar, said to us was, “This is now your home.” Amazingly, he not only meant it, he made it happen. Though we have to confess that home does not offer a most beautiful square swimming-pool with crystal clear water in the middle of a quietly sensational garden, much less the attention of three entirely professional, kind and courteous members of staff and a chef of genius.

Our suite consisted of a long room with everything guests could possibly need (excluding television, a mini bar, wi-fi connection and tea-making facilities). The bed is firm and comfortable. The bedside tables large and the lighting designed for literates. There is a desk with an appropriate light. Everything in the room, the furniture, the traditional painted wall hangings and the objects in the room are harmonious.

The bathroom is elegant and spacious with lots of fluffy towels and room to put all the things you might want in the bathroom. There is a large bath, and a shower in subtle shades of dark stone. The soap is a cake not a piece the size of half a matchbox.

The suite is off a central courtyard with a large tree in the middle. There is an extra dining room for times when it is not possible to eat by the pool or in the outdoor lounge area.

The group of buildings open out onto a symmetrical garden, a nod in the direction of a charbagh the traditional Mughal garden design, with a square swimming pool in the centre. The surrounding garden beds are marked by pink and white frangipanis and, at ground level, jasmines, plumbagos and other low shrubs make a beautiful under planting. Where the soil is bare it is raked, Japanese style. Unfussy elegance is the look.

In the centre of the outdoor area is a traditional vernacular building (a tabari where, in a village, the family would entertain guests). Here it is a luxurious shaded building open on all sides with the possibility of letting down bamboo roller blinds. Comfortable chairs and cushions by the galore are set out in the large space, a huge table, smaller tables, and wide banquettes. As everywhere on the site there are stacks of books on India and Rajasthan as well as many others of general interest.

We were lucky having the property to ourselves for three days, an unexpected luxury. Even if you share with another couple (goodness me! another guest in the hotel!) there are so many places to sit, loungers on four sides of the pool, alternative spaces for meals, your privacy is guaranteed.

Much of the pleasure of staying here comes from the personality and attention to detail of the highly professional Ishwar. His skills, friendliness and discretion are outstanding. His concern for the well-being and comfort of guests is unfeigned. He is highly intelligent and responsive and we learned much from him about the concerns of the regional farmers, the abundant bird-life, food, travel, local pilgrimage traditions, Jaipur and life. Few hotel general managers could match that, and still anticipate what guests may want next.

An outstanding feature of Anopura is the quality of the cuisine. Chotu, the chef, has an enthusiasm for perfecting his food and the kitchen produces a wide range of outstandingly delicious meals. He is the brother of Ishwar. The basis of cooking at Anopura is classic French dishes, well prepared and beautifully presented alternated with excellent Indian dishes. If that sounds odd we can only say it works superbly well. Guests mention the quality of the table here repeatedly. In our three days we had extraordinarily wonderful meals, always carefully served and as much a treat for the eye as for the palate. We were reminded of "Babette’s Feast", which you may remember, centres around the story of Parisian sophisticates being astonished when served an unexpected banquet of superb food in a remote provincial Danish home. Not that we are either Parisian nor sophisticates. As for the breakfasts – absolutely delicious and beautifully served to say nothing of the home-made cumquat marmalade made from home-grown cumquats. The tablecloths and napkins, changed for every meal, are in lovely traditional fabrics and plates and bowls are of beautiful pottery.

The team consists of Ishwar, and his brother Chotu the chef, they are assisted by two other young men, Dinesh and Gulab. Dinesh and Gulab are also unfailingly attentive, courteous and professional in their standards and interaction with us as guests. We had enormous respect for those looking after us, and after twenty-four hours, genuine fondness for them, singly and as a team. Never was the saying truer that people make places.

Anopura is tranquil. It doesn’t need spas, massages, organized excursions or activities. The pool is wonderful and private. There are many wonderful walks in absolutely lovely rural surroundings. Local people are friendly. A short stroll takes you to the property’s vegetable and flower garden the source of much of what appears on the table and the flowers that beautify the rooms. The gardener, Badri, though with limited English is clearly proud of his kitchen garden and the produce that brings the best and freshest range of salads to the table of the property. There is no need for Anopura to boast of its ecological credentials – they are self evident in the meals offered to guests. Further walks will take visitors into the stony hills of the Aravali Range. A jeep is available and Ishwar accompanied us to a village where we were able to walk up sandy defiles into beautiful mountainous landscapes.

As many reviewers mention, Anopura’s resident golden Labrador, Latika, is a wonderful additional asset. She is well trained and obedient, and she loves being with guests. Like many of her breed she is a quiet presence and seems to be contemplative. Extraordinarily she is a great guide on walks, leading the way to the garden or to the farms and guiding the return home when asked. In common with many others we quickly became devoted to her and wanted to kidnap her and take her home to London.

A simple way of expressing our pleasure is to say that we had certainly one of the happiest stays at Anopura of anywhere in India in almost ten years of travelling. We have stayed in a great many properties all over the sub-continent and have reviewed over a hundred for TripAdvisor.

If it sounds like your kind of place, be assured you will not be disappointed. We can recommend Anopura with absolute confidence.

When we stayed here, as I floated on my back in the pool looking at the stars, I thought that this may be the best place I have ever stayed in.
Thinking about it afterwards, I am sure that it is the best place I have ever stayed in.
What more can I say…...
