I spent four nights at the Grand by GRT and the hotel exceeded my expectations of a 4star business hotel. The hotel has been renovated in the last couple of years. The rooms are large and very well designed. The bed is very comfortable with good linen and very clean. The design of the room is great, particularly the lighting which can be adjusted through a lighting console next to the bedside. This table also has a charging cable with plugs for iPhone and Android phones as well as several international power points, so an adaptor is not necessary. There is a comfortable desk with more power points, good wifi signal and a large flatscreen Sony TV with many channels. The bathroom was also great with a big rain shower, with a window to the bedroom (It has a blind for privacy if you need it). There is a good sized fridge and as much free bottled water as you need.
The hotel is arranged around an atrium, with two big glass walled lifts. The coffee shop is located on the ground level of the atrium. A good buffet breakfast was included in the room rate. This included western and Indian food with an egg station and dosa station. Good quality fresh croissants and other bakery items. The western food includes bacon, tomatoes and baked beans to go with your full English breakfast as well as a big Indian veg section. We also had lunch in the coffee shop and dinner at the J Hind (hindustani) restaurant in the hotel. Good food and service, but not cheap.
I found the service to be excellen throughout the hotel. Both at reception, arriving and leaving early one morning and in the coffee shop and J Hind restaurant. Very friendly and professional.
There is not much immediately around this hotel. But shopping at Pondy Bazaar and restaurants are 1-2Km away. A cheap ride by uber, which picks up at the hotel doors or you can walk down the drive to get a tuk tuk at the gate. I can recommend going to Absolute Barbecues T Nagar, for dinner, a few minutes away by uber.We used a hotel car to get to the airport, in 20 minutes early one morning. I imagine it would take much longer during the day in Chennai's terrible traffic.
