We were slightly surprised to find such excellent Lebanese food in Fairhope! Great food and drinks- the lamb chops and freshly baked bread were particularly good. The waiter was very friendly too and we had a good chat about our trip and cricket!

Sage offers a rather different option for Fairhope dining. Their menu has several great Mediterranean dishes available and they are oh so tasty! Sage is rather small and cozy and the service is always attentive. If you are in the mood for something different and/or healthier than other places, give Sage a try!

After returning to some of our old favorites lately it was time for our dining trio to continue on our self-assigned mission of trying as many of our area restaurants’ as possible. Having read some great reviews we chose Sage in Fairhope for out next dining adventure.

We were met with a friendly greeting at the door by our server and shown to the table

We ordered before dinner cocktails while we studied the menu. When our cocktails were served it was a disappointment. I had ordered a Grey Goose martini on the rocks. I received it straight up in a martini glass. The server apologized for the error and brought me a rocks glass of ice. Our second diner ordered a Grey Goose Lemon Drop Martini which also was not prepared properly. A lemon drop martin is served in a sugar rimmed martini glass with lemon garnish. There was no sugar coated rim or lemon garnish. Our dining companion said even though it was good it did not have the proper ingredients. Our third member ordered a class of rose’ wine. What can go wrong with a glass of wine? I will tell you later.

I should add even though we ordered Grey Goose but received Titos. I have never known anyone to substitute a liquor without first asking the customer.
I could be wrong but my impression is they do not have a trained bartender and perhaps the cocktails are prepared by the servers.

That being said it was uphill for there.

As an appetizer we ordered the Miza Mixer ($15) which consisted of a mix of hummus, labneh, mousaka, grape leaves and falafel. It was all excellent and one order was plenty for the three of us.

For the main course we all ordered the lambs chops (22). Lamb chops are one of the main reason we went to Sage since they are hard to find in our area. We ordered them med rare but they were more med well. However they were still very good and we would order them again. The chops are served with the sage salad and yellow rice. The salad was excellent. The rice was rice and nothing special.

We ended our meal by splitting a plate of 3 small baklava which was also excellent.
Now back to the wine. We ordered a bottle of White Zinfandel. We received a bottle of Knucklehead Old Vine Red Zinfandel ($33). We did not make an issue of it as it was a good wine but again, it was not what we ordered.

All in all we rate the food as very good but bar service needs help. Our very good rating is on the food alone. Our server as friendly and prompt but had to rate him as average due to the number of errors with our drink orders. If possible I would have given an overall ratings of "Good" Better than average but not quite very good.

We will return to Sage at some point in hopes this was just a bad night at the bar.
