The entire Shrine property is beautifully landscaped and filled with nooks containing statues, plaques and benches, ideal for rest and meditation. You drive in two miles from the main road passing fields and cow pastures and enter through the arched main gate. Park your car and start strolling and exploring at your leisure. Or head to the immense building on the right for a daily schedule, bathrooms, and guidance from staff. This building also houses an amazing gift shop with a huge book section including quite a few titles in Spanish.
Words can’t describe the beauty of the altar in the main church and the exceptionally strong feeling that the living God is continually radiating out from the consecrated Host. You want to stay all day. The 7 am Mass is unlike any I’ve ever attended. It lasts an hour but you don’t notice the time passing. Stay afterward to see the screen above the altar lower to display Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Really, don’t miss this Mass.
For people of all faiths who believe in God, even if your belief isn’t strong, a visit here will surely soothe your mind and nourish your spirit. For those who have heard of Mother Angelica you will be amazed at what she built.
Be aware that there is no place to buy a meal, just a “church basement”-type kitchen area with good, plain coffee and a cold water dispenser. Disposable cups and it’s unattended so you serve yourself and leave something in a donation box. There is also a vending machine for candy and other snacks. (The property is protected by an armed guard service. Discreet, but they’re there.)
