Queenspark Hotel
Ranked #67 of 140 Speciality Lodging in Melaka
Reviewed 9 December 2012

Melaka is dotted with a variety of budget inns etc. This however stood out, in my experience of budget hotels, in terms of cleanliness of rooms, toilet and overall look and feel.

Pros
- Stayed in a smaller room on the first night, which was literally a hole in the wall with no windows. However, it was still surprisingly comfortable.
-Got a better room the second night, with laminated floors and tons of space.
-Beds are spring mattresses, so very comfy as with pillows
-Quiet
-ok spread of breakfast.
- Professional and well versed staff, who were able to answer queries well.

Cons
- Slightly out of the way, and requires a car to get around with no shuttle services to Jonker walk. Jonker walk is a good 25 minute walk away, while its closer to Merdeka Square and main shopping centres (10-15 minutes walk).
-Some rooms have no windows, which can be claustrophobic. If there are views, generally its just the streets.
- Can get a bit noisy at night as its near some karaoke/pub joints.

Can be quite busy as they cater to sometime noisy tourists. However, still affordable and well appointed for less than RM100 a room. Recommended for a short break.

Room Tip: Get a room with a window. And best to call ahead to book, as you might not get a room as a walk in.

I was in Melaka city recently for a business trip. I booked this hotel because every other hotels had been either full or not offering a promotion during that period. The location of this hotel is not bad, it's within 1 km walking distance from Mahkota Parade or Pahlawan Mall. There's no issue with eateries, there are plenty in Melaka.

As for the room itself, it is quite small. Quite crowded if you travel in 3. Basic utilities such as an electric kettle and TV are provided too. However, there is a small elevator for guests that makes life easy. :)

Nothing much I can describe about this hotel. For a more spacier budget hotel with the same rate, I would suggest Iris Hotel or La Boss which is just accross the road.

Queenspark is a very basic hotel, with even the best (deluxe!!) rooms overlooking a noisy alley and building with air conditioners blasting out from every window. Nearby disco blasted until early hours. Breakfast is very minimalist with virtually no Western food items. A request for juice brought out a watered-down orangish liquid with little resemblance to juice. No fridges in rooms, no complimentary water, noisy aircon, basic bathroom make the rooms minimally habitable. You get what you pay for.

OK for one or 2 nights, if you are deaf. Staff friendly and helpful. Room OK but no fridge; ill-fitting windows.Breakfast included, (OK for veg with rice porridge daily.) Don't attempt to use hot water shower & aircon at same time. Result - big bang and no hot water or anything. Check list of room items & furnishings-make sure all are there at the start. They say will bill you for the lot if missing. ( even for the non-existent ashtray in the non-smoking room.) Overall comment - OK, have been in worse places in Melaka and elsewhere in World. Neighbourhood all-night disco with sub-woofers is the main attraction til 5AM (yes 5AM -daily.)
