When we checked in, the receptionist was friendly enough but far from being competent as she did continually call her manager over to speak with us given that we had checked in a day later. This aside, we were informed the room we booked was no longer available and we had to pay another MYR200++ to get the an upgraded room which included a fruit platter and complimentary use of the mini bar. We happily paid the additional and confirmed with the Front Office Manager that we had not been charged for the other room and would only have one charge on our credit card.
Given we had upgraded last minute, we appreciated that the room was not made up completely yet so requested for house keeping to stock up the mini bar and bring the fruit platter. Upon ur return, we realised that the complimentary use of the mini bar meant we could drink all 4 cans of soft drinks. This was definitely not what I had in mind when I was paying the extra MYR200.
That aside, the venue is close to a few shopping malls and a local night market. The breakfast range was very average but you can tell they're trying. Staff at the restaurant were friendly and accommodating but be sure to finish breakfast on time as they are very efficient at packing it away.
My only real complaint would be that upon arriving back and receiving my last credit card statement, I realised I was charged twice and for the last 3 - 4 weeks, I have called 4 times and emailed twice with either no acknowledgement or that someone will call me back.. which of course they haven't.
All in all, the stay was ok but the post stay experience has left a sour taste in my mouth. Be sure to check your credit card statement post your stay though.

The Hatten Hotel is a new hotel which is part of a larger Hatten City development in Melaka. One gets the sense that the hotel exists only because of the project, and that there is no real commitment to develop the hotel on its own merits. Hence the building is spankingly new, the hospitality sucks.

From the time we drove up to the hotel we sensed that this wasn't really the kind of hotel we wanted to be in. The carpark was shared with the mall carpark, which was fine except that there was a long queue on a Thursday afternoon because of retail shoppers trying to get into the carpark. So if you are driving, be warned.

The hotel frontage was a bit hidden by the mall and development exhibits, and hard to find. The lobby was huge, noisy and unwelcoming. Deco was minimalist so the noise of children and running feet reverberated through the bare lobby making you feel like you were in some empty warehouse.

The check-in was relatively uneventful and we had no difficulties finding our way to our room. The room itself was new and spacious. Unnecessarily equipped with 2 TVs, but everything was new and in working condition. Except the showerhead which was falling off its screws. No room wifi, but LAN was available. Internet is free but limited to one user per room. Free wifi was available in public areas but because this required login using room id, it restricts usage to one user at any one time. The hotel, at the time or writing, has not restricted usage through portable hotspots, so you can get more than one computer/phone accessing if you can set up the hotspot.

Many of the hotel service counters were poorly manned, and often unmanned. The pool and gym facilities for example were often unmanned. The gym is so poorly signposted and tucked behind the far end of the pool, that it is almost impossible to find without asking for directions. It is however, and well set up gym with new equipment. The pool is also attractively designed. Small and crowded, and more of a shallow family pool than for those wanting a decent workout.

The breakfast buffet was ample and well laid out.

Overall not really a bad hotel. The price was reasonable, especially with a sale price with 18% discount. However, the hotel suffers from lack of attention to the hospitality issues. One gets the impression that this neglect is only bearable because the facilities are relatively new. Not so sure that the hotel will be worth staying in after a few years, I don't think we will be back here.

Room Tip: Ask for high floor with view of the Melaka Straits.

overall, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel. stayed in junior suite with a view of the swimming pool for two nights. Comfy room and cosy. Could be more spacious to accomodate the extra bed we requested for. Bathroom was brightly-lit and clean.

tried other facilities such as swimming pool, steam room, sauna and the H-spa. they were all excellent.

Fallbacks:
- Lift: You need to slot in your room access card before you can press the level number, which was troublesome, especially in a packed lift. Though it increases the security of the hotel, it is a bother to guests.

-checking in took longer than expected. perhaps due to peak period. front staff were polite, but would be good if they put on a smile.

- breakfast buffet spread at the restaurant Chatterz: they have a wide variety of food selections. but, the menu did not change for the two times i had breakfast there. The sofas at the side of the restaurants were not well-cleaned, and the fact that they are white did not help.

perhaps everything is clean and nice now as it is a new hotel. would certainly go back when i visit malacca again. hopefully the standard will be maintained.

I stayed at the hotel for one night in Feb. I was in room 1632.
the first impression of the hotel lobby was not impressive. it looked like very 90s.
the check in soured my impression of the hotel. the staff - a Miss Ee - was rude, impatient and looked like she was ready to go for lunch.
Service at the hotel is really bad.
There was a guy manning the towels station (morning of Feb 14) and he won't look at me when he replied, and he acted like he didn't hear me. i spoke to him in English but he didn't seem to understand. I am surprised that English is not widely spoken by the hotel's staff. Of course among themselves they can speak in whatever language they are comfortable with but with guests, they should at least try.
and this is not a hotel for peace and quiet. it was crowded everywhere and the noise level was through the roof. children were screaming and running along the lobby, groups of people were gathered by the pool to chat loudly.
but the room saved the hotel.
it was spacious and clean, and the bed was big and firm. it was a very comfortable sleep.
the location was another plus, for some. it is next to two malls which can provide some sort of distraction.
and the breakfast spread was varied enough and whatever i had tasted were ok.
think there is potential for the hotel, but it really needs to sort out staffing issues.
when you feel like leaving while you are checking in, it really spoils the vacation.
the staff should just learn basic customer service: Smile a little, have a bit of humility and perhaps pick up a little English.
As of now, i'll just be happy that I paid very little for the room (it was on promotion) and will stay at the Holiday Inn the next time I'm back in Malacca.

Room Tip: room 1632 has a nice enough view

I was staying at the hotel from 11th to 13th FEB 2013! The room was spacious, modern and clean. It is generally clean and comfortable with great views. However, the housekeeping was EXTREMELY TERRIBLE!

We went out on the day and came back at around 5pm and realized the room wasn't clean yet... so we called the housekeeping and asked them to help us tidy up the room and exchange for new towels. We EVEN GAVE TIPS.

When we came back, the room was tidy and all and they even folded a new towel and placed it on the bed. We thought it was great UNTIL MY MUM REALIZED THE TOWEL SHE WAS USING WAS THE DIRTY TOWEL WE HAD YESTERDAY. How do we know? It's kinda embarrassing but I kinda stained the towel because I had menstruation. When we saw the towel, the blood stain had already turned brown. How audacious for them to use back the same towel?!?!!? They even fold back and placed it on the bed?

Honestly, this hotel has great facilities and really great views, however with such terrible standard of HOUSEKEEPING?!?! HOW DO THEY EXPECT TO KEEP CUSTOMERS?

TO THE HOTEL: PLS DO SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR HOUSEKEEPING! God knows what they do if they could just recycle the towels without even washing it! Furthermore, the manager only apologized over the phone but did not do anything except sending someone else to gave us new towesl!

Another problem was that the hotel cards were inaccessible way before the checking time even though we were told that the card is valid till 1pm! I had to travel all the way down to the lobby and asked the service counter to help! I wasted a lot of time as the waiting time for the lift is really slow!!!

Frustration!
