First off the Caribe Resort is great for families with kids or if you like being at the beach but don't need to stay directly on the beach. I have stayed here in years past but booked through a different company this time b/c it was a last minute trip during the busiest time of the year. Once i booked and paid fully through Hosteeva, i was contacted a few days later and told I had to pay ADDITIONAL "resort fees" so being last minute and we really enjoyed the resort last time I complied and paid the additional resort fees on top of the resort fees i already paid. Let me warn you if you book through Hosteeva you will never be able to speak to a per on the phone, I tried several times to call and discuss these fees and the numbers i was given no one ever answered. Second if you email them you will get a very short generic response that may or may not answer your inquiry. They have a app you can get but its pretty much useless.
On to the resort it self, The caribe is huge with lots to offer, multiple pools bot in and out door, a lazy river, snack bars etc. The last night we were there the unit above us had a fantastic sound system and let every one know it, it was so loud we could not watch TV in our unit or get our two little ones to sleep, I called security several times over a 3 hour time frame and nothing every happened, so about 1045pm that night I finally had to call OBPD and with in 15 min it was quiet. Check it was supposed to be at 4pm, however we could not get our room until 5pm but yet had to be out by 10am. The front desk was apologetic though and polite. each night you will have kids playing on the elevators and and having scream contests in the atrium, we even almost got injured while looking at the fish one evening when kids were dropping full water bottles from the 7 or 8th floors in to the fish pond. Couldn't locate security that night to tell them.
On to the unit itself, as with all the 3/3 units we have stayed in here they are huge, plenty of room , big kitchens and balconies.
This unit is not kid friendly in anyway, file floors throughout the entire unite, every table top in this unit is glass with sharp edges, all of the furniture is very dated and worn out. The king bed was comfy and the bathroom is nice and big.
The kitchen is spacious but very limited on basic bakeware and utensils. We made pizza one night but they had no pizza pan or pizza cutter. The dish towels were stuck together with what looked to be grape jelly when we arrived, not real sure how house keeping missed that, but housekeeping replaced promptly. Also the paper towel holder was broken.
No extra blankets or pillows for the pull out sofa
This unit is on the second floor, faces the gulf side and has ZERO view, you are pretty much eye level with the deck of the lazy river. which is about 20 ft away but no access to it from balcony. So no matter what the description says there is no "view".
One of the guest bedrooms had a extremely awkward viewing angle of the TV, and the TV covers the only window in the room. There is not ceiling fan or light, the only light in the room is a dim bed side lamp. The ceiling has a crack that runs from wall to wall with a spot that appeared to be water damage. Both guest beds were noisy and uncomfortable.
Finally the ceiling fan blades int he living area were filthy, I'm only reviewing this b/c for the price i paid i expected a little more. Just be warned and pick another unit, the Caribe really is a great resort.
