I visited on a Sunday and the crowds were overwhelming! However it was a nice place to visit and view the amazing gardens. Some areas weren’t open to the public.

It’s a must to walk through Yu Garden, especially when you are new to Shanghai. Its traditional buildings and the street food is a big part of the Chinese culture. Pay the extra fee and walk into the garden on the middle of Yu Garden, it’s worth it.
Don’t buy to many souvenirs here, it’s expensive. Do try some of the street food

Hard to comprehend the number of people who visit this place. However it does some have some interesting buildings. A ‘volunteer ‘ showed us a very nice tea house on the 3rd or 4th floor of one of the buildings which was definitely a great place to visit to get away from the crowds and still get a good view looking down on the area. I wouldn’t recommend it for shopping as it is just too crowded.

It is not a garden but a courtyard. The buildings are beautiful but come on, plastic bamboo trees???

Enjoyed my visit to the garden and the Tea House. First time was during New Years but I don’t recommend that. Incredibly busy. Other times were very pleasant.
