Off Hwy 79 in a simple concrete building, this place only has two picnic tables under an awning for eating there, seeming to mostly provide take-away meals.
The smoked pulled pork BBQ was delicious, with a good smoke flavor (not overwhelming), and appropriately dry. An Eastern NC style (vinegar with pepper) sauce was provided on the side, allowing individualization of added flavor and moisture.
Sides of French fries (nicely done, and correctly salted!), potato salad (again, really well done, with just the correct balance of mustard and mayonnaise), and coleslaw (just shredded cabbage and vinegar). The coleslaw was (to me) the least favorite, though it tasted better after a bite of the potato salad. It would perhaps be best as a topping for a BBQ sandwich (Carolina style).
The large plate was under $9, and was really a great lunch.
Out of the way, but worth stopping there!
