Our brief stay at Xandari Resort was magical! Everything from the personal check in, the lovely landscaping, the spectacular views from the pool and restaurant were delightful. We saw many interesting birds while having a drink on the patio of our villa. The resort blends bright, colorful artworks and a wonderful appreciation of the natural environment with luxury and first rate service. Our dinner and breakfast in the open air restaurant overlooking the central valley was healthful, very delicious and creative. We didn't have time to go on the trails, but maybe next time. We'll definitely stay here again for a first or last night in CR!

We purchased our stay at Xandari as part of the package they offer with Alma del Pacifico, an affiliated resort on the Pacific Coast in Playa Espadillo. We are so happy we did - it is a wonderful place. We returned to Costa Rica for our stay because we had enjoyed a brief stop on a cruise a few years back so much. We remembered the enthusiasm of the people we met for their country as well as the natural beauty and figured it would be pretty nice to go back. Xandari is just a perfect fulfillment of those recollections and expectations. It is in a beautiful setting overlooking Costa Rica's Central Valley. Each villa as well as the public areas has spectacular day and night views of the valley and the mountains beyond along with the surrounding flora of the resort itself. The villas and the public areas are decorated with colorful and flamboyant original art either created, designed or collected by the owners. The resort grounds are a combination farm and botanical garden, with cultivated orchards, vegetable gardens, flower gardens and nature trails with waterfalls. A substantial part of the food served in the restaurant is grown on site, and water is carefully recycled. It is a model of sustainable tourism along with tasteful elegance. The spa - a full body message is included in the package - is in its own mountainside cluster of small villas with message tables and jacuzzis overlooking the valley. The cuisine is good, if not spectacular, especially the fruit platters, salads and native Costa rican dishes. The staff were all very helpful, prompt, enthusiastic, gracious and fluent English speakers. On the flight into San Jose, the woman seated next to me said, unprompted, "You know, we Costa Ricans are in love with our country." Not just love, but in love. Well, a visit to Xandari, can make any North American see why.

Room Tip: All rooms appear to have a view; there are differences in size for the most part.

This is a wonderful hotel about 30 minutes from the San Jose airport. Our second visit to this luxury hotel. It has every amenity, but we go for the hiking trails and the wonderful food and close proximity to Poas Volcano and Waterfall Garden. Restaurant has a panoramic open air view of San Jose with birds of every kind and color flying by and feeding near. Rooms are spacious and our particular room was a large circle of windows looking into the forest. Simply beautiful, have never stayed in such a unique room. Shilenne greeted us on arrival, was all smiles, and made us feel very welcome. She also spent time with us to sort out any questions about the area, spent a long time helping us with the map. We had our own car and traveled a bit during the day. Another visit, I would spend more time at the resort as it has beautiful grounds, an orchid house, butterflies and gardens all over. Blue morpho butterflies are fairly common here. Beautiful sunsets from the west side jacuzzi. Twice we had the jacuzzi to ourselves. Non alcohol drinks and bottled water are daily stocked in rooms and free. What a gem of a hotel. Very reasonable restaurant prices. Restaurant servers the best ever. Matilda, Diana, and another waiter who's name I didn't get were cheerful all day long and attending our every need. We had a flight problem and could only stay 3 nights instead of 4. We were given credit for the lost night and were allowed to use the money for any hotel service including restaurant, gift shop, or spa. Xandari was the only hotel that gave us full credit for the time we lost. I am not sure they do this for everyone, but I felt they were most empathetic and understanding to our travel trouble. For a luxury hotel, such a personal feel. If I ever get the chance, I will go back, and if I am lucky, will get the same staff.

Room Tip: I think most rooms here are good. Most have unique outdoor showers. Our villa number 20 was a round glass room with high thatched ceiling. Indoor bath. 5 feet from lap pool. We got lucky as this was a surprise upgrade. Absolutely breathtaking when we entered.

Spent our 1st three nights of our 12 night trip to CR at this resort. There are many places to choose from in this area, and I booked this mainly because of a good deal through Luxury Link. Xandari is as good a resort as any Rock, Rosewood or Orient Express resort we have ever stayed at. All it's missing is beach. The views are stunning at night. The property, landscaping, trails and pools are beautiful. Our room was a separate building, the space was large and comfortable. Soft drinks and water are provided everyday, breakfast was not over the top but very nice and included.
We ate dinner there all 3 nights, food was good and reasonably priced, and their house bottle of wine for $20. was excellent. The staff is charming, nice and really kind. What really struck us is how luxurious it is, without being pretentious. No wifi in room but worked well in restaurant and lounge.
If you want to take day trips around the Central Valley, the location is a good jumping off place.
We plan to go back.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, you might want to ask for a room away from employee parking lot

We only stayed for one night as we had to catch an early flight the next day, but we really enjoyed our stay here.

Room - our room was large and beautifully appointed. The balcony was also large and boasted a fantastic view. The decor might not be to everyone's taste, but the quality of the finish is very high indeed.

Service - the service we received was ok. Though to be honest, we were unable to test the quality of the concierge due to our limited time there.

Food - we had dinner at the hotel restaurant. The food was fantastic and the view of the city was stunning.

We will definitely come back to enjoy the other facilities the hotel had to offer.
