This hotel is perfect for an airport hotel but the breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. Easy shuttle to airport and very close to San Jose. Parking next to hotel. Walls a little thin but if it’s just a night you’re staying or works out just fine.

We stayed here on two separate occasions on the same trip ... Dec 24, 2022 and Jan 4, 2023. On each occasion we had early flights from the airports in San Jose.
In terms of location, it's about a 7 minute shuttle ride from the airport to the hotel (or vice versa). The staff is very friendly, warm, welcoming and accommodating. Check in is very quick especially if you have an advance reservation. The rooms are spacious, comfortable with lots of light ... both natural and lighting. The bed (ours was a king) was very comfortable and afforded a very good night's sleep. The a/c makes the temperature more comfortable on those hot and sticky nights.
For food, there is a Denny's ... which serves good basic food. The hotel will give you a 10% discount coupon. The food is just like what you'd find in any Denny's ... nothing special but satisfies your hunger. The staff is friendly and helpful.
The shuttle service to and from the airport is fast and convenient. Takes about 10 minutes each way. The drivers are friendly and helpful.
We highly recommend this hotel if you need to stay close to either the domestic or international airports.

Great stay after a late arrival at SJO. Our room was clean and quiet. Continental breakfast was good. Staff was friendly. Didn’t use the pool but it looked nice. I am not sure how the shuttle works exactly… we walked to the shuttle area and a man in a blue vest that said “can I help you? Tour Guide services” asked if we were going to the Sheraton. I said no, holiday inn, and he called the van for us. I was worried we were getting scammed or he would put me in a non-HI van, but indeed the HI van showed up 5 min later and the blue vest man explained that he works for tips (and we did tip him as we appreciated the quick van service. Who knows, maybe it was already on the way, but we were grateful).

Coming off a 12 hour flight, we needed a hotel to stay in close to the airport to sleep off the jet lag, the holiday inn express was a perfect choice. It is located right next to a business park that is home to most of the major car rental brands in costa rica including the one we used.
There is a free shuttle bus that comes from the airport, they all stop pretty much in the same place and come every 15 minutes, we called the hotel when we arrived and they very kindly arranged for a shuttle bus to come pick us up immediately and it literally appeared 5 minutes later.
The building is quite dated, sometimes (and in this case) this is a sign that the rooms are more spacious since consumers 20-30 years ago refused to be accommodated in shoeboxes, the hotel itself is well maintained, the rooms were extremely clean. Generally when you think holiday inn in Europe you normally associate it with a bed and breakfast level of quality but this is closer to a 4 star in terms of quality and service.
The other plus side is the TV in the room was great, the wifi was free and you could stream your own content extremely easily to the TV in your room (and not random other people's rooms as sometimes happens).
The breakfast in the hotel was a bit limited in terms of range, but there is a huge denny's right across the road so who would not go there for pancakes!

They always incorporate local typical dishes (like tamales, gallo pinto, fried ripe plantains among others) and more traditional breakfast staples such as eggs (scrambled, friend, omelettes, etc.), breakfast sausages, hash browns, french toasts and waffles. They always offer fresh fruits (tropical and seasonal), different types of cereals, dried fruits and nuts, yogurts, pastries, assorted breads, cheeses and cold curts and marmalades. Our drinks include fresh fruit juices, teas, hot chocolate and off course, a great selection of coffee varieties from Costa Rica. We would really appreciate if you could let us know what you would like us to include or change in the breakfast selection. It’s so close to the airport, so you can avoid all the crazy traffic elsewhere. Free airport shuttle runs every 15 minutes during busy times. After arriving you exit the airport completely, and your outside, go to the right by the cafeteria and wait with all the other hotel shuttle tourist. The shuttle waiting area says hotel shuttle on the sign above, and benches. Then flag down the van with Holiday Inn logo on it.
The free shuttle also makes a restaurant run at 7pm every evening and returns back at 9pm. You choose a restaurant close by that’s in a plaza or mall.
Next door to the hotel is a 24 hour Dennys restaurant, Rosti roasted chicken cafe, and a sports bar inside of the casino for adult beverages. The free breakfast buffet had an enormous amount of options, and was open from 6am to 9:30am.
The hotel had everything I needed, great breakfast, comfortable rooms, easy access to the airport and excellent staff. Hotel was very modern and clean. I felt very safe all the time, as the hotel had staff located all about the hotel. Shout out to the breakfast staff, as they were amazing. Highly recommend

Perfect for what you need. If you arrive late, stay here. If you have an early flight, come here the night before. Just a few minutes by their shuttle to/from the airport. We slept good, and surprisingly a good, large breakfast.
