The food is so cheap but great! I got the chicken casado and my husband got the vegetarian casado. The chicken is thin sliced and tender with flavor. The place is small like a typical soda.

You might have noticed that La Fortuna is fairly expensive. Well this soda hearkens back to a more traditional pricing.
It's reasonably priced and delicious. The extras that come with the casado change based on whatever ingredients they happen to have on hand.

TLDR It's tasty and cheaper. Just do it.

To be honest, the places we have stayed so far have, for whatever reason, decided to feed us poor English style food. Just terrible.

This place was humming. Full of local workers, families, tourists and others serving authentic, real Costa Rican food.

I had a fish tortilla. Divine, fresh and very, very tasty. My OH had Casados. Hi devoured it silently. Just wonderful.

This was recommended to us by a taxi driver and a tour guide. They were not wrong. Please go, you won't be disappointed. Having said that, it's very casual. Please don't expect anything smart.

La Hormiguita offers a variety of local dishes like Casadas with Arroz Pinto. They make natural fruit juices like Guanabana, Maracuya and pineapple juice, DELICIOUS!! We stayed two days at la Fortuna and went 3 times to Soda La Hormiguita. This place is highly recommended by locals. I always want to eat where locals eat. They also take US dollars and credit cards.

We ate there a few days ago and had really good local food! Great price as well! You can tell it is a good place to eat when you notice a lot of locals going there!
