We recently rented a 3 bedroom 3-1/2 bath through LEP Costa Rica in the Jobo building at the Reserva Conchal. The condo was beautiful and beds were extremely comfortable. The Playa Conchal is beautiful as well. Never crowded, beautiful white sand, enough waves to make it interesting but not overwhelming. Jimmy with LEP was amazingly helpful. The facilities associated with the condos at Playa Conchal are beautiful and the staff very friendly. We surfed at Playa Grande and Playa Avellanas. Highly recommend Lolas at Playa Avellana - good food and smoothies and friendly service. The road getting there is a bit of a journey but well worth the trip. It was an idyllic experience and I would recommend LEP, Jimmy at LEP, the Reserva Conchal, Playa Conchal, Lolas, Playa Grande... Perfect place for relaxing and visiting other areas in this portion of the country.

Our family booked a 3 bedroom condo in the Bougainvillea buildings and had an amazing stay at this fantastic resort. We found the concierge and all the staff incredibly helpful and the service throughout the resort was fantastic. The condo was clean, spacious, updated with free Wi-Fi and great views. We rented a car, which I highly recommend, as the beach club, pools etc are a good drive from the condos. We went to Tamarindo or the other beach cities every day so it was useful to have a car. We ate at the Catalinas restaurant for breakfast where the food and service was very good and included in the price of the condo. The beach was great - plenty of chairs and warm, calm water. We had an excellent beach massage and the vendors were not intrusive and were fun to watch. We used TAM tours for several tours while we were there and they picked us up right from our condo and took us to the activities. I would highly recommend them. There are hiking and bike trails on the property and we saw some great wild animals right near our condo. We didn't use the gym but all of the facilities were beautiful and pristine. We would definitely stay here again.

Many thanks to previous reviewers who shared info about this lovely property. Our family of 5, including 3 pre-teens, had a wonderful stay in a condo in the Bougainvillea section at Reserva Conchal. Much info has already been written in other people's reviews, but here are some random thoughts in case anyone needs current information.

Bougainvillea specific comments:
-- WiFi reception was great, even with multiple devices streaming in our unit.
-- People aren't kidding, there are LOTS of stairs here.
-- Bougainvillea complex pool is nice but smaller than it looks in photos, maybe 10'x25'. Good for standing in to cool off but not actual swimming.

Reserva Conchal:
-- We didn't have a car and got around OK with the on-call shuttles and the occasional taxi. You do have to think long and hard before leaving the condo and going to the Beach Club, to make sure you don't forget anything that would require a return trip. Next time I would consider renting a car for part of the visit, just to make it easier to get groceries and go back and forth to the Beach Club.
-- Reserva Conchal concierge service is pretty lame. "Concierge" is a misnomer, as they did not seem knowledgeable or helpful with restaurant recommendations or activities. They were proficient with check in/out, and with calling for the property shuttle, but that's it. Fortunately, our rental condo came with the services of a private concierge who was wonderful with recommendations.
--Beach Club service was very slooooow. This happened every day for the several days we went to the pool. We ended up bringing in our own drinks just to tide us over until we could get served.

Outings:
Many thanks to other reviewers and destination experts for validating the "guy on the beach" option for activities. I never would have had the confidence to play it by ear without this. We had a stellar experience with Didier Sanchez, whom we met at the beach entrance to the Beach Club. We checked his references (another family staying on the property), and went on to have some wonderful outings. He and a driver took us to Rincon de la Vieja and a Palo Verde boat tour, and he took hundreds of amazing photos of us on our camera. Highly recommend him! (506) 8907-3661. deescostaricatours.com

Alamo now rents cars at the beach in front of the Westin, so there's another choice in the area besides the unpopular Economy rental. Erick at the beach has a table to make arrangements.

The best food we had that week was Papaya in Brasilito -- thanks to the recommendations on this board.

Things I'm really glad I brought (thanks to other reviews):
Approximately $200 US in small bills for tips ($1s, $5s, and $10s)
LOTS of sunscreen
Water shoes for safety when exploring the beach
Small flashlight for getting around the property at night

I hope this helps someone with their travel planning. It's a wonderful place to go!

Dear Mrs. Nancy B,

We are so glad to know that you had such a wonderful experience within our property and in our country. For us is very important to let you know that the Condo that you stayed at is managed by a third party, to whom we are very grateful is doing this great job.
We are sorry that at the moment the Concierge team couldn’t provide you this the accurate information, we do apologize for that and we would like to tell you that we are working daily on how to improve in every possible aspect, so thank you so much for this valuable advice.

If you're coming for the golf prepare for a great time. The course is challenging ant the pro shop people and the starters are friendly, knowledgeable and courteous. Now the Beach Club is entirely another matter. The food is mediocre at best and the staff are downright rude. Play golf and go somewhere else for food. There are plenty of good choices nearby.

Mr. James G,

We are so happy that you could enjoy of our golf court, is not an easy task to have this beautiful and big court in a dry place like Guanacaste’s weather is. We apologize if you couldn’t find something that satisficed your needs at the moment, we do have the best people working with us and we know they make their best in order to fulfill the requirements of all of our guests.

Our family of 5 stayed in a 3BR, 4BA condo in Bougainvillea on our first trip to Costa Rica. Figured we would use this as a home base for exploring the Guanacaste region. Ended up thoroughly savoring our beach time on Playa Conchal while still enjoying several full- and half-day trips and dining in local towns.

The condo was spacious, clean and beautiful. A very quiet setting. Very comfortable king-sized bed in each room. Used kitchen to cook a couple simple meals. Felt very safe here. Heard birds and occasional howler monkeys from condo. Laundry right in condo a plus. Only wished we were closer to beach--didn't realize it was a 7-8 min drive/shuttle ride to restaurant, pool, beach.

We were pleasantly surprised that breakfast at Catalinas restaurant was included in our stay. The food was delicious with great menu options. We also enjoyed a top notch dinner at Catalinas and would highly recommend it as a convenient and casual, yet gourmet dining experience. Poolside service for drinks and lunch was tasty and relaxed.

The concierges were extremely friendly and accommodating in setting up tours (they contract with Swiss Tours, which we highly recommend) and helping us to navigate the local area. Rented a car onsite--very easy. We only wish they (and our Lonely Planet and Fodor's guide books) had been more knowledgeable in providing directions to drive (and instructed us to have a more rugged 4WD car for driving final 3km to Santa Maria ranger station) on our own to Rincon de le Vieja National Park. It seemed like such a straightforward outing but turned into a circus of a 5-hr drive, never actually reaching the hiking trails we sought. After succumbing to an organized tour with 2-hr hike to that locale the following day (surprisingly great hike!, enjoyable tour), we could now very easily give others guidance on a do-it-yourself outing.

The pools and beach access for us was separate than those for the Westin guests--quiet and peaceful, never crowded. Beautiful pair of rectangular pools that could be used for lap swimming. Beach is stunningly beautiful with great expanse for walking, fun waves for play with kids.

Several paddle boards and kayaks are available for guests. Wish the resort had a few soccer balls, footballs, and Kadima sets for playing on beach.

Occasionally got annoyed by vendors on beach offering guide services, massages, and selling wares, though they weren't too intrusive.

As our week progressed, we became more aware of the trails/paths on the property that can be used for hiking and mountain biking. Bikes for the resort were being repaired and were not available. Instead we drove up to Las Catalinas and my husband rented a mtn bike from Pura Vida Ride and rode mountainous trails (single track and wider) there. Fun outing for mountain bikers. Kids and I hiked same trails. Would recommend that Reserva Conchal enhance its trail system with signs and maps to make them more accessible to guests, as the property is really beautiful and the trails offer great views and escape into nature (trees, birds, monkeys). We had awesome runs each day both along the hilly road down to beach, on trails, and on the beach into Brasilito.

We did not use golf course or spa or gym, but they all looked very nice. Wish there was yoga.

We would stay here again if we ever return to this area of Costa Rica. Thank you, Reserva Conchal, for a gracious introduction to Costa Rica!

Room Tip: We were on ground floor with walkout patio overlooking golf course. Could see ocean.
