We arrived to Limon after driving hours from Arenal to be warmly greeted by Minerva at the front desk. We were escorted to our bungalow which had a wrap around porch with a couple of chairs and a hammock. Our room was very basic, which was expected, tucked in between palm trees and flowers; but spacious enough for 3 people with a small bathroom, a clothing rack, and a safe. Although there is no AC, there are screened windows that can opened, and plenty of fans in the room to keep cool. We had no issues with mosquitos or bugs since there are nets over the beds, and I found that it actually gets pretty chilly during the night! It was so relaxing and soothing to hear all the sounds of nature at night! breakfast was served every morning which was always pretty good. We had dinner there one night and although the service was a bit slow, the food was good. The bungalows are situated right across the street from the beach and were provided towels and chairs from the front desk. just a couple of minutes drive away was the market with all sorts of vendors, restaurants, bars, etc,. which was a nice way to spend the evenings! Everyone is super laid back and the atmosphere is very chill and relaxed! I did treat myself to a massage and it was awesome! The room was airy, with the doors open facing the jungle and made the atmosphere very relaxing, so check out the spa if you want to indulge! Limon is a very beautiful place and La Costa de Papito was very enjoyable. Note that there are no pools, no AC, and it's in the middle of nature so if you're looking for a resort type hotel, with AC, and don't like the sound of bugs or seeing them, then this isn't the place for you!

We stayed in Bungalow #1, which is closest to the main hotel area. The hotel itself is a good place to hang out, with bar, pool table, and restaurant. The food was great, but not excellent. The front desk had options for booking surf lessons, scuba diving, tours, etc. The bungalows themselves are pretty spacious, especially the walk in shower. Don't forget to lower the netting around the bed when you sleep, as my wife awoke to a bat on her head at 3am. Neighbors thought her screaming was a howler monkey. There is a large porch on the bungalows with a table and hammock. We loved staying at this location and would stay here again if we ever make it back to Costa Rica! One con is that the hotel is about a mile from the village of Puerto Viejo.

We loved our bungalow and the staff. The food and drinks were excellent. The hotel is actually within walking distance of downtown Puerto Viejo, the Caribbean Chocolate Forest and the Jaguar Rescue Center. We met so many wonderful guests that became our friends. We have great memories staying here. The only downside is No Air Conditioning! But I think it may be due to the area's many power outages as other hotels didn't seem to have air conditioning either.

Room Tip: The smaller bungalows are closer to the main hotel

No AC, no pool, doors and walls don't completely close so bugs get in. There was a termite problem in our room in addition to huge grasshoppers and we closed our room up before we went out for the day. The bathroom water is not potable so there is a sign to not drink the water. You can get water from the lobby. The staff is nice but this is definitely not what we thought. We even asked to be allowed to go somewhere else and told no we have to pay for our reservation. This is one of those scenarios that the ratings are skewed.

It's uncomfortable for us and unfortunate for everyone when a guest chooses the wrong Hotel. If you require AC and a pool it's important o go to a hotel that offers that. If you arrive on a busy friday when we've turned away people to keep the bungalow for you and you decide right then that you'd like AC and a pool and want a refund it's really not fair that we should lose the rental . You may see a grasshopper or even a hummingbird buzzing in front of the bathroom Mirror but if you want a view of the Volcano we don't have Volcanoes on the Caribbean coast.
If you want to see Volcano you have to stay in a hotel where that´s possible. That's A Win -Win for everyone!!

Nice welcome, courteous staff, raken directly to the cabina, with good info. Clean property, pretty landscape, nice restaurant on premises. Good for family stays. Short walk to the beach.
Many local attractions within a short drive. ARA macaw research center, fascinating few hours, up close and amazing views if these gorgeous Green Macaws.
