Besides the Mofongo and Peruvian Ceviche, my favorite thing about this place is the friendly service and the vibrant latin american decor. I met the owner Manny during dinner service and the ambiance fits his personality well. Engaging, energetic, friendly. I highly recommend Alma and bring your camera to take pic's of the beautiful Andy Warhal-esque framed pictures of latin american luminaries through the years. Great experience.

My husband and I (30-something USA) had a wonderful night here. If you're looking for something in San Jose with an authentic, yet modern and trendy vibe - this is your spot! The restaurant has really cool artwork, great lighting and gets so much just right. It felt like the new neighborhood hotspot based on the looks of all the trendy locals wandering in. The cocktails and food were absolutely delicious. We have the pineapple coconut ceviche which was spectacular. The only bummer was the lack of service. Everyone was wonderful and friendly, but the large restaurant was simply way under staffed to provide proper attention to all patrons. It didn't bother us, but was noticeably slow. Go and enjoy!

The food is awesome, I loved the shrimp cerviche. The staff was exceptionally friendly and took time to answer all questions. The decor is beyond beautiful with modern paintings of famous Latin Americans. Then there is the full wall covered with a whimsical mural reflecting the portraits in the birds. A must see.

We booked ahead, but stood at the entrance waiting to be greeted - we had to find someone to seat us. Our cocktail orders were taken quickly, but no-one returned to take out meal order - we had to ask. The cocktails were very good.

The food came quickly and was good! We ordered plates to share, but had to ask for serving spoons. We also ordered a bottle of wine at this time. The wine and spoons were not delivered, even after we asked a second time. We cancelled our wine order after we finished our meal. It should not take 20 minutes to open a bottle and carry some glasses. Once we complained, they handled it well. We were given two free desserts to share between the four of us, and some coffee liqueurs.

This place is a great concept, but there is an issue with communication and management; a bit more care and warmth would go a long way! Our group spoke fluent Spanish so it was not a language issue. Other glitches were that our table was very high and we sat like children on low chairs, having 2 Televisions showing UFC sports was not good for the ambience. Apart from that, the place looks land feels lovely. Lots of potential!

We came for the food and were disappointed by the arroz con pollo, which was dry and overcooked. We ordered a side of beans that came out cold and had to be reheated per our request. The service was hasty and very because there was only 1 server for a nearly full restaurant. However the dessert was spectacular; the flautas are delicious.
