The very small (three guest room) Chilkoot River Lodge is spectacularly situated on a bluff above the lower stretch of the Chilkoot River. We visited in August during the start of the pink salmon run, and spent hours on our patio area watching anglers, eagles and a brown bear sow with two cubs, all fishing. What an amazing location!
Our hostess, Sue, has thought of and provided all the creature comforts for her guests. Our room was nicely appointed with two queen beds, luxurious bedding, a modern full bath, efficiency kitchen (microwave and apt size fridge), and table with chairs. There are dishes, flatware, and a coffeemaker, salt, pepper, dish soap and towels all available for your use. There is also a lovely covered pavilion equipped with picnic tables, gas grill, and a locker with grilling tools and a variety of spices available for guests to cook their dinners.
Sue made sure that each guest had clean towels, plenty of coffee and delicious breakfast muffins waiting in their rooms each day, She is also a font of information about the area and about native culture.
I almost hate to write this review -- this place is really too good to share. We hope to return again for a longer stay. It really is a special place.
