A fun ride to the top of Mt Roberts - easily accessible downtown Juneau. The top gives a beautiful view over the Juneau area as well as south and north. There's a nice gift shop at the top too.
Especially enjoyable is the outdoor hike out through the area. Some thrilling overlooks.

This use to be my best escape for a nice afternoon walk when I used to work on Cruise Ships. Every 7th day our ship use to be in Juneau Alaska during the peak season time. Often I used to come out around 1100am and take a tram up to this mountain and do this hike on Mount Roberts Trail. I have loved every bit of it specially the weather. Being an India coming from a busy metro city this kind of weather is a Dream come true, where there is ample of sunlight to recharge every cell of your body but at the same time you do not feel the heat exhaustion in spite of walking for a good one hour in the sun, now that's amazing from my prospective. Also along with the bright sun light you get this nice mild breeze of cold fresh air, such a rare combination. Of course this kind of weather is during the Alaska Season time only. But for me most of the time I visited and hiked this trail, I have been lucky to have this weather 9 out of 10 times. This trail is a must do for Couple / Family or Solo Traveler to help you either bond with your partner / have amazing time with family enjoying the glorious day / or to walk the earth alone and connect with the deepest part of yourself.

Take the tram up to the trails. Tram tickets are good all day. Trails paved and and lots of foliage and vegetation. Awesome view of Juneua at th top of the trail.

Having arrived at the top on the Tramway have your walking boots on to keep going higher on the hiking trails. They are not long but they are steep. Through the forest areas lots of tree roots to keep an eye on. Views are terrific. A sunnier day walk as it would be muddy on a wet day.

This is a local favorite of mine. It's enjoyable in summer or winter.

Summer visits: Tram will be open. Enter up on Star Hill or up on Basin Road, there will be a sign visible in either location letting you know you've got the right place. About 1 hour hike up to the tram (sits @ 1800 ft above sea level) if you're in decent shape and don't take long breaks. It's a pretty steep trail so bring hiking shoes. The tram has offered different types of discounts for a trip down (if you hiked up) over the years, not sure what they're doing now but I'd wager it's in the $10 ballpark, maybe $20 if I'm being conservative. Check their website. You'll have a nice view of downtown Juneau and Douglas Island and, if you go a bit further, Mount Juneau. The trail continues along the ridge up to the peak of Mount Roberts but it's a pretty long hike, several hours I think - Don't recommend you go up much further than the cross if it's socked in (foggy), several hikers have gotten lost up here over the years I've lived there.

Winter: if you go in the winter bring cleats for the first part with tree canopy cover (it will likely be icy) and have snowshoes ready once you get just below alpine. Also be very careful and stay on the ridge if you go up past the tram to reduce likelihood of getting caught in an avalanche. The tram will be closed and you'll feel like you're out in the wilds despite being able to see Juneau down below. Still only takes about 1.5 hours to get up to the tram in the winter.
