This is an experience to say the least. Feeling as though you are in China. Good value for money, waitress was not to friendly though.. You go for the food and the company not the ambience...

The Fisherman's Plate doesn't do fine dining or anything close but its cooking is excellent as are the ingredients used. A little off the beaten track in Jo'burg's new Chinatown the restaurant is minimalist on decoration and ambiance, and service can be a little perfunctory (though the owner is charming if a little difficult to understand). The place has no licence so you just bring your own alcoholic beverages if you want a drink with your meal. Good choice of fish and seafood with excellent crab, prawn and squid dishes for example, all served in ample portions. Judging by other diners, this place has a well deserved loyal local following. Worth a visit if you're in the area and want a change of cuisine in simple surroundings with decent prices.

Wonderful, well priced food in Johannesburg's "new" China town, I have eaten here before and I'm yet to be disappointed.

An often visited restaurant, very basic as all eating venues in china town usually are. We love the crab dishes, especially the crab curry, and the crispy prawns are delicious. The owner is very helpful with suggestions and it is a BYO spot, no corkage.
Ideal for bigger groups, with lazy susans on the tables and you can share dishes and taste all the great morsels

We have been to Fisherman's Plate quite a few times. From large groups to a couples dinner. The food is fantastic every time.

Service and decor are simple with no frills but honestly they aren't necessary.

You can bring your own wine, no corkage.

The chilli crab is their signature dish and it's worth the work involved with crab. The garlic friend prawns, three cup chicken and bean curd with pork mince are all fabulously tasty!

I would highly recommend the trip down Derrick avenue. Don't get put off by the area.
