Family in Gauteng told us about The Fisherman's Plate in Cyrildene that we had to try.
The food is awesome, tasty and well priced.
If you looking for fine dining, this place will not be for you. Small venue that can get crowded, full and noisy. Tables very close together, but if you looking for excellent well prepared tasty food then this is exactly the place to be.
We ordered a variety of Chinese food to share. If seafood is your choose I believe you will find it here.
As I said the venue is small, crowded and parking a bit of a problem, but well worth it.

We tried this place out as it was rated in the top 10 seafood restaurants in Johannesburg. What a joke. Firstly whilst there might be a calamari and a prawn dish on the menu it's NOT a seafood restaurant. It's a Chinese restaurant. I love Chinese food but this was a poor Chinese restaurant!

Ambience is non existent - bright lights, no decor, no music.
One main meal arrived before our starters.
They took mains away, brought starters. Once they started to bring the mains the difference parts came out up to 10 mins apart- vegetables arrived at the end if the meal.

Stir fried cashew prawns..... No cashews, about 6 prawns.
Deep fried calamari - over cooked and tough.

Area is dodgy with no parking (went early on a Thursday night) and no guards in sight.

My husband and I and our teenage daughter visited Fishermans Plate last night for the first time. As we usually eat in and around Sandton, it felt like a bit of an adventure trekking all the way out to Cyrildene.

We were not disappointed. The food was very good and excellent value for money . We had fried prawns, crispy chilli beef, fried calamari, pork noodles and egg fried rice. I particularly enjoyed the fried calamari and egg fried rice.

I was disappointed to not be able to order duck ( which apparently you just order a day in advance).

Visited here for a quick bite to eat on a Tuesday afternoon with friends. Restaurant was deserted but that must have been due to the day and time since the food really was very good.
We shared deep fried fish (big white sardines were the fish of the day), deep fried chilli and garlic prawns, egg rice, sizzling beef with onion and green pepper, sweet and sour chicken and stir fried green veg. Everything was delicious; the S&S chicken, fish and rice stand out dishes.
Although egg fu young was not on the menu, they happily made it as a take away for another friend at work, who reported it to be delicious.
Including a 12.5% tip (and 4 sparking waters) out bill came to R615.
Would recommend and will definitely return.
