I took the Johannesburg, Soweto and Apartheid Museum Tour. If you are interested in the recent South African history, it is a great tour. But extremely expensive. 1390 ZAR per person (if you are at least 2) for a tour is too much - I would recommend you to take the hop on - hop off bus, and try to see as much as possible, but do not spend this much. It is just simply too expensive, when the actual cost (entrance tickets, food, fuel) is not more than 200-300 ZAR.

Johanesburg, Largest city in SA. Located in the Gauteng province. Sandton is the city for business, shopping and the weathiest province. But the peak of pollution is hight. Taxi in Jo'burg is very expensive from the airport to Sandton,Rivonia, where luxery hotels is located.Though only 20 minutes far.It is better to take the Gautrain, from the Airport to Sandton. You should buy the Gold Card. The train will leave you at the train station nearby the shopping Mall and from there, the shuttle service can pick you or if you wish you can phone the Hotel they will pick you up. To travel inside Jozi, economically you can take cheap-cheap 'tuk tuk' three wheelers taxi take over for a minimum of 25 Rand.On the road to the Hotels you can stop and buy beautiful Craft work. But you can also go to RoseBank craft Market directly for more choices .The sun is warm, not hot/burning.The air is dry with spring-like temperatures on average. Though December and January can be grey and wet.

Had a four hour tour with Mthandeni (mthandenitourguide@webmail.co.za) and it was great. He was extremely knowledeable, likeable and willing to share personal experiences. Took me to some places I would never have seen via a large bus tour.

You will hear lot of people say that its not safe. once you get there ask for the regions not to venture and then all will be fine. Be cool and all gets smooth.
