Beginning of Spring, the sun was shining, the weather was perfect and the restaurant setting was ideal.

We went for brunch with friends in this pleasant tranquil garden watched the duck and cormorants over the water. Bit cold and would have liked to sit in the sun but they were mowing the grass. We had just missed breakfast but they still served our friends with poached eggs and omelet. We had a burger and quiche. Food was good quality but the teapots were chipped. We always love this setting and will be back.

My wife and I went for lunch at Buitengeluk because we craved their tranquil outdoor setting. It was a mild afternoon when we arrived there and the beautiful gardens and lake was just what we needed. The setting is absolutely gorgeous and we felt ourselves transported to a far away place out in the country.

Unfortunately, the service and food did not live up to the awesome setting. Our waiter suffered from the usual "I just work here" attitude and served no other purpose than bringing the food to our table. There was no advice, no recommendations, no follow up and no feedback, other than to inform us that the wine we wanted was out of stock. Strangely though someone had enough initiative to go to the store to procure our chosen wine without us specifically suggesting it to them. That was a plus.

We ordered a salmon salad and chicken pesto pasta. The salmon salad was delicious enough, but then again it doesn't take much effort to dish a pile of smoked salmon on a plate with a handful of greens and capers. There was a dill sauce with it, but it didn't taste of anything. It was OK, but lacked imagination and arrangement.

The pasta dish tasted really good, but the penne was only half cooked through. How do you get that wrong when there are only guests at 4 tables in the entire restaurant? It took some time to get the attention of our waiter who was very busy moving tables around somewhere else. Eventually he arrived and I explained that the past was undercooked. No apology or engagement of any kind from the waiter, who took the plate away and arrived back 10 minutes later with a new attempt. the new attempt was better, but the pasta still stuck to the teeth. Unfortunately, the waiter had by now disappeared and couldn't be recalled. At no point did the chef, cook or manager arrive to enquire (or apologise) about our food experience.

Buitengeluk has everything going for it. Great location and awesome setting. Unfortunately, the poor service, lack of interest and general food quality was shocking. What a pity!

Ten of us, all pensioners, had lunch at this excellent restaurant. We sat on the lawn in a lovely garden. Some had the chicken pie which they said was delicious. The rest of us had lamb rogan josh. I love curry and this must rate as one of the best I have had. The flavour was just right and the lamb as tender as one could wish for. The service was pleasant but slow. This may have been because the chicken pie takes a while to arrive but, in fairness, one is warned that this will take some time to prepare. This is a great restaurant. Highly recommended. They had 3 options for Mothers Day: breakfast, high tea and lunch. We chose the set menu lunch. It was excellent. The kids had a separate menu. Food was tasty and really good. The buffet dessert was a winner.
I am sure the normal a la carte menu will be just as good. Nice setting in the garden an option as well. We sat inside with a cosy fire going.
