Owner description: The Cheetah Centre in South Africa was established in 1971, initially as a cheetah breeding project and the Centre has during the past 40 years bred over 800 cheetah cubs. Various conservation projects have been initiated since its inception which also inlcudes a successful African wild dog breeding programme. Known in the past as the De Wildt Cheetah Centre the name has recently been changed to the Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre as a tribute to the woman who has devoted her life to the survival of the cheetahs as well as other rare and endangered species

The tour of the Cheetahs by Kiera was succinct and informative. This research center has a truly ecological approach to animal conservation with insightful understanding based on research of why animal communities are under stress and endangered. The breeding and release programs are based on research and include educational programs to those impacting on populations and cost effective ways to manage the perceived threats. This is really a must do tour- if only for the information on Honey Badgers. You will admire and sponsor the vultures

Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, we drove through most of the animal camps and was given a talk about the species and saw the animal close by and the feeding - which was a highlight.Being around the animals gave me a sense of surrealism... imagine being so close to a cheetah and wild dogs and not being attacked as the views of others perceptions and reality as misconstrued your own.
The tour guide was really passionate about what she does and I am sure she parted her knowledge to all that attended the tour. A job well done and I hope everyone that attended the tour can impart their knowledge to others as well to make a difference by advocating the rights for these animals

Something to be seen as a priority. Animals are very well kept and guides offer a very extensive description.

Visited here expecting to see and hear about the Centre,s breeding programme and its contribution to saving this wonderful animal which we did. What we didn't expect was an informative tour around the park (inside the compounds!) in a jeep where we also saw vultures, smaller wild cats, hyenas and wild dogs! The guides fed the cheetahs right next to the vehicle and we were "chased" by the wild dogs who knew the guides were about to feed them. What an experience. Make sure you record the sound they make. Great half day out and well worth a visit.
