This backpackers / lodge is fabulous! Words can not describe how kind and helpful the people are who work in the hostel. Not only with everyday questions in and around the hostel but also helping out planning my trip and getting back my phone that I forgot in the hostel where we stayed previously, I got it send to Blue Sky Mining but it didn't come in on time. When the parcel came in Blue Sky Mining they helped me out big time by sending the parcel right away to Cape Town!
Thanx a million to Romy for arranging that and a lot of respect+love for all the other staff as well for making my stay so pleasant (6 days).

Yes,it's a backpacker but there's no reason for it not to be hygienic. We were allocated a stinking room, not to talk about the shower.....oh my word it was so filthy. The water was cold because they forgot to switch the geyser back on when we arrived. They should invest in cleaners and industrial cleaning material.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your recent stay at Blue Sky Mining Backpackers & Lodge.
First of all, we do apologize for any inconvenience caused...however, we would like to mention the following:
We doubt that the geyser was not turned on that particular night, as other guests were using the bathroom facilities sharing the same geyser...without complaints. It is unfortunate, but hot water can become a problem in winter as guests tend to shower longer than usual. We do apologize that there was not enough hot water, but keep in mind that alternative communal/shared bathrooms are available to all inhouse guests.
Furthermore, it would have been very nice for you to mention that you received a free upgrade - from a standard double room ensuite to a self-catering unit - the first night that you stayed with us. You checked out the following morning with no complaints whatsoever.
In addition, you decided to return to Blue Sky Mining to stay a second night. The staff on duty showed you to your room...and despite having been very busy that particular weekend, the owner offered once again, to upgrade your booking as per previous night. However, you decided to keep the booking as is...after having seen and "smelt" the room...stating that all is ok.
Management was informed on Sunday morning that you seemed highly unhappy about your second night's stay...as you stated that the room was very, very smelly.
Surely, that should have been noticed the night before...!
We inspected the room after your departure...and nothing was found wrong in terms of SMELL...other than USED sanitary items as well as alcoholic beverages (that were NOT purchased at Blue Sky Mining's bar...which is against Blue Sky Mining's house rules) that you and your partner deposited into the bathroom's bin!
It is very disheartening to read comments like yours as we are trying our very best to keep guests as happy as possible.
We offer clean, comfortable accommodation at very competitive rates and would like to see happy guest's faces on arrival and departure.
Please feel free to log onto our Facebook page and you will notice that the majority of guests are very, very happy with the service received.
Sad to hear that you think differently though.
All in all, we would like to wish you all the best.

Stayed here while doing a month long internship in Amanzimtoti. This best is one of the coolest backpackers lodges in South Africa. Location is beautiful and the staff are super welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Definitely worth coming back in the future.

Most amazing place to be no matter what time of year. Units : Black Marlin and Great White are beautiful units to stay. We then stayed with the family in the dormitory Dorado (sleeps 8) own bathroom/shower/toilet basin. Fantastic stay and ALL staff are excellent
and always very helpful. The food at restaurant is very tasty, especially the specials of the day. Relaxingand beautiful environment and staff. If you look for 'Luxurious 5 star accommodaton' book in at the Hilton hotel. View is breathtaking, wifi very fast, swimming pools are amazing.
