Beautiful gardens with huge area for the children to play. It is a fun place for kids where they can explore the nature. Since it is an open space, avoid visiting there during hot days. There are a lot of animals to see and the best part is the entrance fee which is next to nothing.

We spent some time in durban recently and discovered this gem. It's been here for years and still does Durban proud. This is one beautiful park that caters for the whole family not just the children.

We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere at the Blue Zoo cafe while the kids where busy with art and crafts, cutting away play dough and climbing the jungle gym. Child-minders assisted the kids with their activities while parents enjoyed a breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea.

Then it was off to the Zoo. Entrance was minimal and no it's a zoo with The Big Five. This park plays host to small animals and birds from crocodiles to raccoons, monkeys, peacocks, ducks.
The monkeys are pretty entertaining. Our best moment was during lunch, at the cafe when my son was enjoying his burger. Then out jumped the monkey from a tree and grabbed his burger and ran off. It was the funniest thing we ever experienced, he didn't know whether to cry or laugh because he doesn't like to share and definitely couldn't chase the monkey. But he laughed with joy after whole experience.
The manager at the cafe was so kind to replace it without extra cost.

We fell in love with this place and so did our son. It is well run and the facilities are clean and well maintained.

So if you need of rest and relaxation, head to this park and try out the Cafe while the kids get busy. There is ample space for a picnic or stroll through the park and Zoo.
A good family outing.

The zoo was a hit with my child. Loved walking around and seeing the animals and birds. Entry to the gardens is free but the zoo has a minimal fee. For adults it is R11. For kids below 12 it is R8 and pensioners it is R5.

Lots of benches and well maintained grass if you wish to pack a picnic basket. There is also a restaurant on site.

The play area has swings and see saws and jungle gym which was busy but equipment is in fair condition.

Nice way to spend 2 to 3 hours if u have.

A relaxing place to walk especially with babies & toddlers who can run around in a safe place - there are also good play areas - one next to the excellent Blue Zoo restaurant often has a friendly Child Minder on hand ...

Mitchell Park is as its always been a bit run down I suppose its due to lack of funding. I was a bit disappointed today to see that the flamingos are now gone. Its fine for small children but once you have been you don't need to go back for a long time.
