If you can get over the gravel road, this is one of the best places to stay. The accommodation is perfect and so relaxing. Its in the nature reserve, has animals, is quiet and really gives you a sense of being away from the city. The staff and food is on point. Definitely, definitely recommend this place.

A bit hard to drive the last 12 km from main road onto gravel but well worth it. John takes good care of you and the personnel is absolutely accommodating and friendly. I highly recommend this spot. The 3 course dinner has been alway lekker and breakfast leaves nothing to complain about!

Spent an afternoon and a night at the lodge. It was far from everything - and with very little to do.
There are signs by the river about danger of hippos and crocodiles - so no jumping in there. The pool area is shady - so only by the room on the front porch was it possible to find some sun.
Cool with the nyalas running around on the lawn ;-)

The lodge is set in a nice garden overlooking the Blyde River. It is secluded from the main road with access via a very bad dirt road for 10 km (not 6 km). The rooms are quite nice and spacious with a kitchen and a sitting room. The restaurant/food is acceptable, but service is a bit slow. The disadvantage of the lodge is that there is really nothing to do. We were recommended to walk around on the dirt roads which was boring after the first hour with really nothing to see except big orange farms (the largest we have seen). We found the front line staff not serviceminded and unhelpful and with no suggestion what so ever except that we had to drive the 10 km (and an extra 10 km returning) to reach any spot for sightseeing. It is not a good starting point for the Panoramic Route and may be good for one night only. The management should focus on the front staff and be prepared to give alternative suggestions for activities.

The rooms are well maintained and looked after. The gardens were nice and it was lovely have nyalas wandering around the gardens. The dinners were okay (nothing fabulous but also nothing dreadful). The food service was very, very slow. The staff were not friendly and any assistance seemed to be a chore or big hassle. They also seemed to strategically be unable to speak English at times when they didn't want to assist - but were perfectly capable at a later time. This was a lady, I think named Monica in particular. I think it was because of the staff that we didn't really feel 'at home' here.
