My husband and I love to use a food tour to experience a new city as it’s a great way to learn the map, meet new people, and experience culture. We’ve had the pleasure of walking food tours in several countries, and this far exceeded our expectations. Our guide, Anine, was warm, knowledgeable, and funny. She could run for the Mayor of Cape Town tomorrow and be elected because everyone we passed knows and loves her.
Upon meeting us, she immediately customized the tour. I’m vegetarian (not vegan) but my husband eats meat and she made certain we were able to experience each. We don’t drink coffee, so she took us for tea. We wanted a bit of history thrown in, so she took us to the District 6 museum. Everything was done at our own pace while ensuring we would have time to see everything she had planned.
It’s difficult to select highlights because each place was special, but rooibos tea at the Biscuit Mill and traditional South African cuisine at the bus station are favorites.
Our only regret is that we aren’t able to do another tour with Anine during our stay in South Africa!
