Had a wonderful time with the very passionate and knowledgeable Devey Glinister watching the meerkats wake up at sunrise and go about their daily business.
Devey tracks the meerkats the afternoon before so knows where they (should) be come the followng sunrise, and we set up at the burrow just after sunrise to await their arrival. The first female scout duly arrived and went about her daily business, checking for predators, warming up in the early morning sun and making sure the coast was clear before summoning the rest of the troop out of the burrow. We spent a great couple of hours watching 12 meerkats gradually appear from the burrow and their behaviour warmed up as their bodies warmed up. And then we tracked them for a while from a respectful distance as they went about foraging for the day's food supplies. They have Devey's trust and are relatively unconcerned by 'man made' noises - camera clicks and whirrs being no problem to them. We had a great time, got some great photos and thoroughly support Devey's vision for rehabilitiating meerkats back into the wild. If you like seeing wildlife in the wild, you'll love this experience.
