We stayed here as part of our Overland tour with Absolute Africa. We were in dorm rooms with other members of our group. The rooms were fine and beds comfortable enough. Bathrooms were pretty clean and showers were largely hot (with a couple of cold spells).

There is free wifi in the lounge areas. There's also a well-stocked communal kitchen and fridge. The hostel is in a good location and a 10 minute walk away from the malls/parks of Stellenbosch. It is a beautiful university city. The hostel staff were helpful in giving us info about the local area, the safety of walking about at night (which was fine) etc.

We went on the wine tour offered by the hostel and had an excellent time - I think the price was c. 450ZAR. Overall, a pretty good outfit, with DSTv on offer and plenty of activities/advice about where to go whilst in RSA.

Not a luxurious option but a perfectly serviceable hostel with plenty of activities on offer.

Stayed in a private room but dorms and yard camping is available. It has a grat vibe, bar, common area, pool, pool table, and there is a pub crawl they organize. The wine tour they offer is easy and legit. Discount if you stay for 2 nights. Very friendly staff.

Can't even cope! Where do I even start to write this review.

If you love dingy rooms packed with drug, money and alcohol fueled domestics between three generations of the same family, a chick letting her uni friends in and out of the dorms (and her pants) or other people forgetting their keys and whinging that reception should be open at 2am to magic another set for them, then this place is meant for you!

Hygiene: poor.
Facilities: abissmal.
Staff: incompetent.

Needless to say we were going to stay for two nights, but the one we stayed sufficed. To be honest probably the first 2 minutes of just entering the building with the waft of cigarette smoke and the sound of (for lack of a better word) heinous bogans ranting, would have also sufficed.

This is a review based on several visits to Stumble : in 2008, as a student; in 2010, as a tourist; in 2015, as a friend.

I won't speak too much about the features and the furniture but about the atmosphere, the vibe. About the possible. About mindset. About what can happen.

Stumble Inn is first of all a backpackers : for people passing-by to discover the region or to use the Wine Tour service they provide, for students in holidays or looking for accomodation in town, for families and groups from organized tours.

Stumble Inn is a place which welcomes newcomers and old friends alike, where Georges and Sharon, the couple behind the bar, have been handing cups of happiness and shots of good times across the counter for almost 20 years.

Stumble Inn is not a “party place”. Rather a place where parties can and will happen. When people, staffs and residents, will be in the same mood. When, after an exceptionally sunndy day, a cheerful vibe will run around the palm trees and the tents in the garden. When people decide against going out in town and linger a bit inside. When good stories are told around a good bottle of wine.

It's a place where the livin' is easy – and diverse. There will be crazy and quiet, groups of 30 people and movie nights, barbecue and music, espressos and tequila shots, couch-dwellers and pub-crawlers and pool-players and barflies and weary travellers.

It's hard to pinpoint what exactly does the trick, just like it is hard to pinpoint what exactly make you consider a person a friend.

Not a life-changing experience but a welcome change in your life during your stay.

Not a place where things will be pre-hashed for you, but where you can take part.

A place which you will not forget, until you return.

A nurturing environment for merry souls.

The spirit of backpacking in a lush and vibrant nutshell.

Come and have a bite.

Stumble Inn is nothing special, but it is a convenient spot in the heart of Stellenbosch. The staff is friendly and the accommodations are clean. I actually lucked out and had a dorm to myself! :) Easy walking distance to city centre of Stellenbosch, and they can coordinate wine tours, etc. for you...though I didn't take advantage of this...
