If you are looking for a quit, yet central, a peaceful, yet lively, a beautiful, yet hidden place - and all this looked after with charme and love, then make sure you book this place. Had an 8 day stay which made us (2)relax and enjoy all the way. Having seen a few other places and being south african myself, I may say I know what I am talking about. This very clean accomadation with a beautiful setting and view also has a great garden and pool to relax when not going whine-tasting. 15 Minutes to the beach and 10 to Stellenbosch - what more do you want? We loved it and there was nothing missing. Breakfast only on the days we wanted - got us ready for the day - great!

Stayed at Acara for 2 nights to have a little R&R after the flight from UK. Very comfortable accommodation and a lovely garden and setting. Easy to walk to excellent restaurant each night and well situated for visiting the Winelands

We travelled with our two children aged 9 and 5 and we loved the tranquillity of the gardens and the fabulous views. Our kids loved the space to roam, and were so excited to discover a family of mongeese (or is that mongooses?), Fiona's horses and dogs, and lots of guinea fowl and other birds. We loved to wake up with the sun streaming through the willow trees, and to go to sleep with the sound of cicadas in the trees, or often an owl hooting at the moon. The pool was good, and fortunately no-one was around to object to our splashing and shouting and laughing. We found it an ideal base to explore the winelands, and although we already have our favourite wineries, restaurants and places to explore, we found new excellent places. I would say that although bed and breakfast is an option, Fiona probably prefers guests to self cater. Supermarkets were only a few minutes away, and we quickly got ourselves sorted out. Fiona and Dave were very friendly and helpful, and it would be lovely to go back one day.

Fiona and Dave Stafford are the perfect hosts. We stayed in the Jacaranda Suite, which was just perfect for the 2 of us. The gardens are beautiful, with spectacular views to the Helderberg Mountains. Glorious countryside but only half an hour's drive into Cape Town. We enjoyed the very convenient restaurant, 96 Winery Road, but also just about 3 minutes drive away there is the Auberge du Paysan, which is perfect for a relaxing lunch. Everything very clean and bed superbly comfortable. Hope it wont be too long before we are able to return.

Room Tip: Jacaranda Suite perfect for a couple. The 2 cottages are larger both with room for 4 people. Lavender Cottage probably ideal for a family with 2 children. The lower cottage is larger and the deck gets sun in the evening for your 'sundowners'.

An ideal reprieve for couples, families, or for a solo sabbatical in the heart of Stellenbosch. Acara Cottages is immaculately run, located on a gorgeously gardened estate, and conveniently across the street from *The* Winelands Restaurant, 96 Winery Road. (I can't overemphasize this convenience: walking distance to such a choice foodie destination proved an unexpected highlight of my Cape Town holiday.)

Dave and Fiona are attentive to every detail: think lavender sprig on morning croissant butter, instructive & hand-selected Cape Town guides on the bedside table. They're truly professional hosts, able to make guests feel invited & looked after without cramping their space or style. Acara is all the good things about a B&B without the drawbacks: you have the peace & anonymity of a spa (...until you have a nit-picky coffee request, need directions or a winery recommendation--and can find thoughtful experts at your fingertips). Absolutely magical!
