We had a fantastic time staying at Acara. We are a family of four (2 children aged 5 & 3), and stayed for ten days in the Lavender Cottage, which was perfectly set up for us, being all on one level.
Fiona is a welcoming and thoughtful host, having contacted us in advance to book us in at a couple of the more popular restaurants in the area, and was a good source of tips and information about the surrounding tourist attractions.
The house itself has gorgeous gardens, and the children were free to explore and run around as much as they pleased, and having several horses stabled at the property also made for good entertainment. The two dogs are friendly and well trained, and our kids were very sad to say goodbye to them when we left.
We had planned to relocate into Stellenbosch itself after five days, but we were so content in our surroundings that we asked if we could stay longer at Acara instead.
We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely try and go back in the future.

On our way to Avalon Springs we stayed 1 night at ACARA with our 3 children. Fiona was there to host us with her wonderful smile and to make us feel immediately at ease with her friendly dog.
The stay was perfect, the house so pleasant and perfectly well located on the wine road just a few minutes away of Stellenbosh.
Practical, spacious and very clean! Fiona gave us good tips (the chitas) that made our trip unforgettable!
If we go back to S.A. and visit the wine road, we for sure would come back to the same place. Strongly recommended for families or people who like nature!!

We had the privilege to visit beautiful Acara again, but this time with a small (busy) toddler. The beautiful gardens, horses, owls, squirrels, birds welcomed us every morning! Stunning venue, even although the Cape drought's effects could be seen all over the province. Fiona was massively welcoming as always and no problem was too big or too small!

Room Tip: Jacaranda cottage is ideal for small young families

The room itself (jacaranda room) was average. Towels were drip dried & very rough, advertised iPod charger was 5 years old & irrelevant, no cold water in the fridge, shower very weak, etc.

The grounds are lovely & the owners pleasant. The pool is heated & beautifully cared for. Hence the four stars, but the room isn't worth the cost

Stayed in Acara when in town for a wedding. Great accommodation! Lovely helpful host and the grounds are a credit to Fiona the owner. Conveniently located and easy to get to from Capetown. Also uber services this area so super easy and cheap to get around if you don't want to drive. Suitable for couples or families with a lovely space to have a BBQ/brai.... the restaurants and wineries surrounding Acara however are incredible and you won't want to eat in too often! Thanks again Fiona. We would highly recommend a stay here
