We telephoned on a Friday to reserve a time & were given 12:08 by a rather vague sounding lady. We turned up well ahead of time & our name was nowhere to be found on the start sheet. However, the shop were happy to take our money & told us we could play at our promised time. We did observe a fairly substantial queue on the 1st tee & enquired with the starter, who said they were running late, but we could play at about 12:30. Eventually we were paired with another 2, which as sensible as the course was crowded with 4 balls. However, the round was excruciatingly slow, with waits on every shot & often 2 groups of 4 waiting on the tee. After THREE HOURS (including a 10 minute stop at the half way house) we were hoping that the 2nd nine might be a little better as at least 2 people had given up, but after another 2 hours we had only played 15 holes & retired to the clubhouse. Stellenbosch is a good, traditional layout with decent greens, despite the obvious signs of the drought, but I would not play here as incompetent management seems a regular feature, judging by some of the other reviews. It seems that they had told others to come & play as well, despite the course being fully booked, while they also have 8 minute gaps between tee times, which is unrealistic when nearly everyone is playing in 4s so delays build up & the result is a round of golf that takes 6 hours.
