Owner description: Red Rock State Park is a 286 acre nature preserve and environmental education center with stunning scenery. Trails throughout the park wind through manzanita and juniper to reach the rich banks of Oak Creek. Green meadows are framed by native vegetation and hills of red rock. The creek meanders through the park, creating a diverse riparian habitat abounding with plants and wildlife. This riparian habitat provides the setting and the opportunity for the park to offer a focus on environmental education. Red Rock offers a variety of special programs for school groups and private groups. There are a number of daily and weekly park events. The park offers a visitors center, classroom, theater, park store, ramada and hiking trails.

We just returned from four nights in Sedona. The Red Rock mountains are absolutely beautiful. Every time I turned around I was snapping pictures of mountains, cactus flowers, and more mountains. Of course, you just can't capture the beauty on a pocket camera! We left our home in Northern Nevada and went down through Utah. We spent a day at Cedar Breaks and Bryce Canyon. Beautiful, beautiful! Our trip was to see the Grand Canyon and yes it was awe inspiring, the colors of the canyon did not compare to Bryce. Then on to Sedona. We took the Pink Jeep tour at 7 a.m. before it go too hot. That was fun, but a bit over priced. I will definitely return to Bryce and Sedona in the future.

I really agonized over the 3 star rating for this one. ‘Average’ of course is all relative. If I had been dropped here having been no where else in the Sedona area, it would be an instant 5 star rating. But we had already enjoyed a number of hikes in the area and found this to be our least favorite of the bunch. We specifically took the ‘Eagle’s Nest Loop’. The trail was well marked and a comfortable steady climb (not too steep). There was plenty of that wonderful red rocks color to contrast the desert fauna. The visitor’s center was nicely provisioned and staffed with a very helpful ranger. IMPORTANT: due to budget cuts, Red Rock State Park is due to close on 3 June 2010, so check the web page before venturing out. Hopefully this will not occur as is obvious from other reviewers, a lot of folks really love this State Park.

This park has several nice walking trails that I imagine are beautiful in the summer & spring. We were there after all the trees had lost their leaves so it was mostly dry & dead. Nice little creek flows through it. Annual National Park Passes don't get you in - still have to pay the $8 fee.

Red Rock State Park is a great place. There are many trails for all different types of walkers/hikers. There are simple flat trails as well as hiking trails. The views are great and the volunteers are excellent.

i really enjoyed this park. the other reviews are spot on. you can spend between one hour to half a day. visitor center is small. one peculiarity is this is pack in, pack out location so no trash bins anywhere. bring a plastic bag for all your trash and take it out of park. auditorium has video on sedona and on hummingbirds; nice projection. hikes are not strenuous at all, so good for small kids or older folks. great views from top of hike trail. entrance fee is $7 per car. further details on arizona state parks website
