Cabins at Grayton Beach State Park
Reviewed 28 August 2017

If you are looking to get away and your focus is on hanging at the beach, this is the place. Pretty much a private beach in a nice non-urban area. Seaside is close by which is a place we love to visit for lunch. There is no TV or internet but really, if you are there for the beach, it's not necessary. The price is very very reasonable. You can't book an Airbnb this close to the beach for this price after all of the fees are added on. The great thing about the state park cabins and that there are no cleaning fees and such added on. There were about $30 in reservation feed and taxes, which is great. The cabins are clean and there is an awesome screened in porch and little back yard area with a grill. We brought our own bedding but it is provided. You will need to provide your own shower soap, hand soap, dish soap etc. There are towels provided. It's basically a nice quiet private gated community with it's own beach that is about a 5 minute walk. You can't beat it. The only downside is that during certain months (August-October) there are black biting flies on the beach depending on the direction of the wind. They are pretty brutal but we just left the beach and came back later. In the mornings they aren't typically there. Other than that, it was an awesome experience. We arrived close to closing hours for the park and all I had to do was call ahead and they left the key on the counter for us and the doors unlocked.

This is our 8th year staying in the cabins at Grayton Beach State Park. Our family of six adults, five teenagers have visited for a week at a time. We get two units side-by-side. I have rated the cabins before always as top notch. Cabins are clean, pretty well equipped. Even though linens are provided, we bring our own towels and at least bottom sheets for the queen and twin beds. We cook all of our meals in the cabins, bring our own utensils such as waks and electric griddle's. Also, use the barbecues but have now used grill mats because they are generally pretty dirty.
But the location and sunsets are so great. This part of the state park is unusual because access is limited to residents of the cabins. So pretty much we have 3/4 of a mile beach to ourselves and a few other people. Very natural, fantastic sunsets, it's great for walking.
The cabins are set well apart in the woods, there is no view of the ocean and no TVs. Bring games.
There is a nice handicap access walkway over the dunes from the parking lot, to which you can walk from the cabins, or drive. This year the park installed new plastic fabric walkways on the beach to help access.

Just returned from Spring Break and while the weather was not conducive for beach going most of the week, the location and tranquility of this portion of the state park more than made up for it. It was serendipitous that I wasn't able to get an RV spot in the main park as the cabins are in a very secluded area about 1 mile west of the main park. Yes, they are rustic, but well equipped and ours was very clean (5A). We did bring additional cookware, hair dryer, beach towels, blankets, charcoal and food, and were well equipped for the week. The location couldn't be better and what's so remarkable as others have stated is that you're sandwiched between houses and condoland with essentially your own private beach. The one day that was finally conducive for sunbathing had maybe 15 people total on the beach and the cabins were full although not obvious. The walk from our cabin was 7 minutes although if you're hauling a lot of gear, there is a small parking area at the end of the road next to the boardwalk. I walked to the beach several evenings and was alone stargazing with binoculars--fantastic. If you're wiling to trade creature comforts and communing with the masses for peace and space, this is the place for you. Note: some people complain that these are too expensive for what they are (compared to other state park rates) but given the location and time of year, I would have paid double for the amenities this park offers--a real gem.

Room Tip: Cabins 5-15 closest to beach but ALL within reasonable walking distance.

The "Cabins" at Grayton are truly enjoyable places to relax and reflect. No TV or wifi is a major plus. Addition by subtraction....The cabins are modern, super clean, with central air, heating and a gas fireplace in the living room area, Two bedrooms with a queen, rwo twins and a pull out couch to sleep six. The kitchen area contains a full fridge, pots and pans, dishes, glass ware, coffee cups, range, toaster and micro wave. There are many beautiful walking paths and both the white sand beach and water are immaculate. The cabins are duplexes, but no problem. Quiet and privacy are nearly perfect. Can't wait to return next February.

Room Tip: I don't believe there is any such thing as a bad cabin.

Linda who checked us in at the headquarters was very friendly and helpful. The beach was just gorgeous and virtually deserted. The cabins are a very short walk to the beach and a short bike ride into the village. The shower water was hot and great pressure! Parking is plentiful. The location couldn't have been better but the cabin was a little too spartan for us. No TV, no wifi, just a couch in the living room -no chairs and the couch was very sticky, we covered it w/a sheet before using it. There were only a couple of towels and the blankets were just this side of useless. We had the heat on and still needed all four to stay warm. I don't know what a family would do-one thin blanket per person wouldn't be enough. The cabin we stayed in really needed a good cleaning. There was a wadded up kleenex under the bed when we got there and a lot of scum and dust in the corners and on the walls. The cabins share a wall like a duplex and the people adjacent to us were quite loud-one had a terrible cough and someone would kick the wall in the night. The heat made a loud (enough to wake us) clicking noise as it clicked on. I don't see us staying here again. But if you're going to be at the beach all day and don't care about comfortable furniture or wifi this would be a great place to stay.
