Owner description: Reptile Park & Botanical Garden near Dominical Become thrilled seeing these magnificent animals up-close; a fun and easy trip for the whole family Parque Reptilandia has the largest and most diverse presentation of Reptiles and Amphibians in Costa Rica. Educate your kids and yourself on this special group of animals. They can be examined safely from close-up and are beautifully exhibited, simulating their natural habitat as much as possible. When strolling down the easy walking paths you can also enjoy the many beautiful plants and trees in the botanical garden

Having seen a few reptile parks in the developing world, I wasn't expecting something so clean and well maintained.

There are over 80 species of reptile including many of those you might see in Central America. They are well cared for and have really good spaces to live.

The signage is very explanatory and interesting.

It's a little off the beaten track - but well worth a stop if you are close.

Many of the recent trip advisor reviews were very good and we decided to stop. We drove up and no one was there. We rang the bell and a guy came and took a $16 a person admission and disappeared. Not once did we see him or did he offer any information. Most of the tanks and some of the enclosures were dirty, Often the lizards or snake were hiding and it would have been helpful to have someone to help you find them or to offer more information. Lots of snakes, but no real interesting information about them.
Little children will have a difficult time getting high enough to spot what is in any of the enclosures.
For a child who is into snakes and wants to spend the time finding them it is OK.

When you pull up it seems rather small and not very impressive, but when you go through the building to the exhibits in the back area it is amazing. I and my son love reptiles and were amazed with the exhibits. It is clear that the owner, Quetzal Dwyer, loves reptiles. The exhibits were spacious and nicely set up. He even has a Komodo Dragon. A lot of species that you can see close up in a nice landscaped area. Not expensive and well worth it. I will be going back when we return to Costa Rica and I highly recommend you detour to see this place.

Although the facility is aged by time and weather, the animals and enclosures in this place are in fantastic shape. It's a little pricey, but we thought it was worth it. You simple do a self-guided tour through the facility that has both outdoor and semi-indoor (nothing fully enclosed or air-conditioned) dry and aquatic enclosures. It's good for families, or anyone. There is a lot to see, dozens of species native to Costa Rica and some Asian species. It's worth the stop.

We love reptiles, so this place was a must during our trip to Dominical. They have some very cool reptiles here. We had a blast checking them out! It's a hike, but worth the drive!
