One of my favorites, and most frequented restaurants in San Marcos La Laguna. The large bowl of miso soup is one of my favorites on a raining evening. While my partner enjoys the tempura, I enjoyed the shrimp stir-fried rice. I definitely
recommend this place. Be sure to make the effort to find this place, which is down a little callecito, from the soccer field (cancha de futbol)

We have now eaten at Allala eight times, and every time is as good as the time before. One has to ask around in order to find this restaurant, as it is off the "beaten path," but once found, you will be in for a wonderful dining experience. Seiko, the owner is hands-on in every way. She prepares the food with excellence and love. Her glowing presence is what makes this place so special. She greets everyone with a hug and a smile, then quickly gets back to the kitchen. The food is authentic Japanese (imagine - in a small village in Guatemala!), with every dish prepared excellently. The restaurant is covered, but actually open-aired. You will feel like you have walked into a hippy-haven from the 1960's - which makes this restaurant even more special. Everyone is laid-back, and you will often find spontaneous music and laughter coming from the table next to and around you. We have tried every dish Seiko offers, and all of them are terrific. There is a wide variety of drinks, and they too, are well prepared. Believe me, there is not another restaurant on Lake Atitlan like this one!

Now I've been trying all the places in town and this wins for foreign cuisine. Service was spot on from when I arrived. The chow mein was delicious. The right balance of vegetables, noodles and sauce. The sake reminded me of sake in the Japanese restaurants back home. The bonus dessert was a lovely touch.

I even purchase goods ( hand made leather wallet and a vintage dress) on the way out.

I'll be back. Well worth the hesitate walk down the off alleys

Hard to find, in a dark alleyway which has no other businesses nearby, just peoples houses. Need to ask someone how to find.
The place inside is quite cool. When we went there was a japanese guy playing guitar all night. Very chilled place - its nice.
Staff are very slow, as is the food arrival.
However food is quality!

Good value and large portions of Japanese food. The setting is odd...tucked away in a narrow passageway, with dirt floors and low, sagging ceilings made of translucent corrugated plastic sheeting. Half the restaurant appears to be a second hand women's clothing rack. Wicker chairs angle backwards and make for and uncomfortable dining experience.
