I stayed in this guesthouse during my trip to glacier for 2 nights on last days of August 2015 in family room ( 5 beds). Rooms are small and there are only beds in it. The place provide you for your basic needs to relax, clean beds, clean shared kitchen with a fridge, oven, electrical kettles and other basic utensils. Bathrooms and 2 shower places are neat. Location of house is awesome surrounded by beautiful landscape and waterfalls. Towels are provided and bathrooms don´t have hair drier.

Room Tip: Take a walk around

The location is wonderful, close to a waterfall and the price is almost cheap considering that there are not so many options close to there. The room was newly refurbished with a sink; however it is possible also to choose an ensuite room. However in the second option there is not the possibility to use the kitchen. It is a very clean place.

I stayed here for one night during a self-drive tour around the island. My room was comfortable, clean and quiet. Breakfast was included and very good. The hotel restaurant also offers dinner (extra charge) and since there is very little in the area, I ate there as well and had a great dinner. Recommended.

After reading the absolutely horrible reviews of this hotel on Tripadvisor, I wondered why in the world my travel agent ever booked me in there. The reviews said that the manager was a director, so I was prepared to meet Hitler in person or perhaps his contemporary cohort Kim-Jong Un, the present Great Leader of North Korea.

But no... the receptionist was a very kind young Polish immigrant ame to my humble room, for which I paid a small fortune. (Hey, this is EXPENSIVE Iceland!).

The most unusual feature about the Klausterhof Hotel is the opening hours of its Reception: 8:00-10:00 am and 4:00-10:00 pm. I arrived there at noon, so I had a four-hour wait until check-in time. There is very little to do in the village of Kirkjubaejarklaustur, especially because it was a Sunday, so I passed the time by having lunch, taking a siesta and working on my book. I have gone for a swim at the local pool and paid only $2.25 US for the admission, but the place of was full of screaming kids, which is a bit hard on my aging (y)ears.

At exactly four o’clock I checked into my room located on the second floor of the hotel which is divided into a) a hostel, b) rooms without a bathroom, and c) rooms ensuite. My very simple room had two single beds, a small sink, a night table, and a lamp.
On the positive side, the room was very clean and it was a safe place to bed down for the night.

The bathroom, located on the first floor, had a sink and commode. Nothing more. The tiny, tiny shower was in an adjacent room right next to the 60-gallon water tank . YES, in the very same room, which seemed like a giant compared to the dwarfish shower. By the way, a large and small towel are provided in the room, BUT: bring your own soap and shampoo! This is most certainly a BUDGET hotel in the extreme!!!

Breakfast, included in my room price, was served buffet style, as in most Icelandic hotels. The meal was the usual Icelanic fare: slices of ham, salami and cheese, several kinds of bread, sliced hard-boiled eggs, various kinds of dry cereal, different flavors of yogurt, cucumbers and tomatoes, nice jams, coffee and tea.

Attention: If you’re thinking of taking food out of the breakfast room for later consumption, think twice. Here is the exact wording of a sign placed directly on the breakfast table: “Just enjoy our breakfast. Don’t take it away. No food to be taken out. No packing. Don’t take the risk of being caught stealing from the breakfast buffet and asked to leave the breakfast hall. CAVEAT EMPTOR for the cheating cheapskates that stay at this hotel!

Internet and parking at this hotel was free. Yes, FREE! Can you believe this is Iceland?

My family stayed here for 1 night while driving around the ring road. The room consisted of 2 sets of bunk beds, with the bottom of one being a double bed. It was clean and comfortable. Had a sink in the room and a shared toilet and shower for about 6 other rooms. The shared facilities were clean even though the showers were only separated by a shower curtain that freaked out a couple members of my family. There was a European breakfast included which was good and plentiful. The town was very windy that night but you didn't really hear it in the room. I would stay here again. There is a very nice waterfall right behind the restaurant that you can walk up and see the lake. Also very close to the "Church Floor" rock formations, which was very boring. Wifi included.
