“One of the Top Five Churches in Antequera”
Review of Convento de Belen

Convento de Belen
Reviewed 19 March 2014

The Convento de Belen is among the five most beautiful churches in Antequera and is a must visit. The altars are quite beautiful and the church has many places painted in the Mannerist style, that are quite elegant. The ceiling has many plaster moldings that give the church a special and elegant style. I especially liked the altar of St. Joseph and the Christ Child, which is quite beautiful.

The façade of the Convento de Belen is quite simple but elegant. The cupola is quite impressive and the interior has plenty of plaster decoration. The sculptures, one of Christ Fallen on the Mountain, and the Virgen de los Dolores, are quite impressive. Other sculptures are those of San Miguel Arcangel, Santa Clara, San Juan de la Cruz and San Bruno. This makes the church quite impressive.

The Convento de Belen has plenty of good art in the church. The Baroque plasterwork is quite unusual and calls attention. This is a good church to visit if one visits Antequera.

The church is simply stunningly beautiful. The arrangement of the entire church is spectacular, and the side-altars are wonderful.

The Convent of Belen was built by Gonzalo Yañez and its façade is quite simple. The Latin Cross was used as the floor plan for the church. There is a very high cupola over the main nave. What differentiates this church from others is the very elaborate Baroque plaster decoration that is outlined in blue. There is plenty of art inside, such as the sculptures of the Christ Fallen on the Mountain and the Virgen de los Dolores, San Miguel Arcangel, Santa Clara, San Juan de la Cruz, and San Bruno. Fray Domingo has an impressive painting of the Adoration of the Shepherds.
