Description: At Zizzi we like to do things a little differently. We don’t do over-complicated recipes or scrimpy portion sizes. We’re all about the well-chosen ingredients, simply put together to make exceptional Italian food. The restaurant, located on the high street, is close to all the shops and amenities and a short walk from the River Thames and the historic Higginson Park. The beautiful listed building used to be a brewery and boasts large open spaces and vaulted ceilings. In the spring and summer the restaurant has an additional private al fresco patio area. Take a look around the town then join us for a bite to eat and take a load off. Dine al fresco with an outdoor dining area for sunny weather.

We booked for lunch today at this Branch of Zizzi. The setting of the restaurant is quite stylish with an enormous wooden candelabra in the main hall. The staff was quite courteous and our waiter was very professional and unobtrusive.
Once seated we ordered some ubiquitous and unusual Arancini filled with pulled beef and mozzarella for myself which were tasty enough while my wife had Pan-fried king prawns in garlic butter, smoky pepper pesto & white wine, served with watercress (which was missing) and soul bread. She enjoyed that although the smokiness slightly masked the delicate flavour of the prawns. The Fritto Misto that followed for two to share although flavoursome it was quite oily and not much fish in it plus plenty of crumbs from the butter. If you look on their website the pic of the dish shows a much more generous topping. The Rustica Pizza Carnoso without tomato with fior di latte (the flavour of the smoked mozzarella was undetectable) truffle oil infused salami, crispy wild boar, prosciutto, mushrooms, grana padano and smoked garlic oil was quite tasty. I didn’t detect any smokiness and again if you look at the pic on the website there is at least 3 times the amount of salami on the pizza. Maybe instead of using so many words to describe the dish they could use more topping on the actual pizza. It reminded me of a scene from the film “Falling Down” where Michael Douglas asks for an hamburger and he got a sad version of the picture shown above the counter. The overall flavour of the dishes wasn’t bad and except the arancini and the prawns they could have been more generous with the fritto misto and the pizza.

Good food, very varied menu, choice wines. Staff were very good. Enjoyed the food, my only gripe, is the noise level...no carpet, curtains etc, to absorb some of it. BUT it's worth it for the food. Thank you.
