“Stunning, unusual, well equipped, amazing!”
Reviewed 24 September 2012 for a stay in September 2012

We stayed at St. Pancras for a long weekend with our two young children and some family friends. We'd seen the photos but the place is just so beautiful in reality! It was clean, warm and cosy, really well fitted out with quality furniture, toys for the kids, ipod docking station, games, and all the utensils you need to cook for the whole family. The beds and linen were lovely and comfortable too and all the rooms had plenty of space. Really central for lots of attractions - only a few minutes outside of Lyme Regis centre so we could pop to the beach, or off to the tram at Seaton.

We all had the best sleep we'd had in ages - so quiet and peaceful. Thanks to Anne and Barry for providing such a fabulous and unusual place to stay. We'll definitely be back. Unfortunately it never got cold enough for us to light the log burner but we'll do that next time!

Anne Moore and her husband made us very welcome to their wonderful property. The photo's don't do it justice. It is tastefully furnished and both cosy and airy. The cosiness is provided by efficient central heating and a fantastic wood burning stove. The airiness is due to the soaring ceilings and mezzanine bedroom takes full advantage of this. The kids loved all the nooks and crannies to hide in. There is a stone spiral staircase to the other double bedroom which is an adventure to get to and feels very isolated from the rest of the house in the tower. It is the lightest space in the house with triple aspect windows and snug carpet underfoot. The kids used this bedroom as their play space with it's long wooden 'desk' that was wide enough for the two of them to sit side by side and play schools. The downstairs twin bedroom has magnificent stained glass windows and is very snug and cosy. The kitchen is light and spacious with a big sturdy dining table that divides it from the living area. The walls are decorated with amazing tile work, calligraphy and carvings so you can spend the evening sitting on the comfortable sofa, next to the wood burner just taking it all in.
I would say that there are only two aspects to this property which could be improved. Firstly the damp that must be in the walls behind the kitchen units has left the crockery and glass ware tasting musty. We simply put it all in the dishwasher and then left it out on the extensive counter top until we used it and that solved the problem.
The second thing is the bathroom facilities. The shower, which is a 'power shower' over the bath, was not at all powerful and the lack of an additional separate toilet could make things tricky if we had been a party of six. However, we accept that it may be difficult to accommodate extra facilities without compromising the preservation of the amazing array of original features.
The final thing to mention about staying in Rousdon is that a path from the estate leads directly down to the beach. Though the scramble isn't for the faint hearted it is certainly worth the effort - totally secluded and barely anyone else there. There is a nice pebble/sand beach and then further along are some amazing fossil covered boulders and rock pools to explore. We have found many ammonites and also a couple of ichthyosaur vertebrae here. The highlight of our trip was a private guided fossil walk in Lyme Regis with local geologist Brandon Lennon who helped us find a heap of prehistoric treasure.

Lovely, very well equipped house made us feel welcome and at home. It is located in a large estate, worth walking around. You can access the beach from the estate, and look for fossils or walk the coast path. A place to visit again!
