We had heard about this pub and thought we would give it a try. Well next time I will be leaving the car at home. Fabulous 'proper pub' which serves excellent food. Local oysters, lobster and crab, with great choice of steaks too. Great ales, wine list and menu and they had a large screen for the rugby, unfortunately I had the car. Will be back.

Thank you for your review Fliz66, next time you come to Harwich can I suggest you come by bus or train - we're only 5 mins from the station, that way you can enjoy the wine list more fully or even better we have rooms .....
See you again soon.

Popped in here for a drink after a blustery walk around Harwich. The food looked good as we walked in and we opted for nachos with chorizo. It was lovely. Perfect for sharing. The place was very busy. Obviously very popular.

My wife and I stayed for a night. The room we had was very comfortable with lots of character. Also excellent shower. Enjoyed good food and drink in the bar. All the staff very friendly and helpful. Just how a pub should be. Very good value.

Unfortunately unless you like being ignored in favour of locals not a place to go to. Waited for some sort of service but we couldn't get any

After a swift visit to see our friends house they are buying we popped into the Alma on the recommendation of the current owner.
The welcome was so warm and genuine and the range and quality of the food was amazing. I will return for the special Suffolk pork pie starter alone.
And to top it off it was great value. A hidden gem.
